Have you or someone you know been
recently diagnosed with dementia?
After your diagnosis, you are entitled to a year’s
support – ask your doctor to refer you for post –
diagnostic support.
Alzheimer’s Scotland can also offer help and
advice through their 24 hour Dementia Support
Helpline.
Your local Dementia Advisor, Teresa, offers
completely confidential advice and support.

The Edinburgh Service (Alzheimers Scotland)
can give you information and advice. Give them
a call on 0131 551 9350.
You can also call Social Care Direct on 0131 200
2324 to get advice on services in your area.
Day Services
At the first sign that additional home or social
support is required either for the person with
Dementia and/or their Carers, a Community Care
Assessment takes place from the Department of
Health and Social Care and also the Carer has
the legal right to their own assessment –
accessed via Social Care Direct.

Dementia Cafes
Edinburgh Branch D-Café
The Café meets on the last Thursday of every
month from 1pm to 3pm at the Quaker Meeting
Room, 7 Victoria Terrace.
Tea/coffee and biscuits are provided. Everyone
is welcome to drop in. Please come and join in
even if it's just for a little while. Please contact on
0131 667 6289 for details of the programme.
Oasis Café (for those under 65 years)
The Cafe is at Holyrood Abbey Church Hall,
London Road on the last Tuesday of every
month from 11am to 2pm.
The Café offers activities and support to people
with dementia who are 65 and under. We also
offer Carer support and information to people
who are supporting people with early onset.

Reminiscence
Football Memories
A number of football memories groups have
been established across Scotland from the
Shetland Isles in the north to Stranraer in the
south, where people with dementia and other
memory problems gather to enjoy talking football
and looking back at old photos and other
memorabilia.
The Hibernian Historical Trust hold meetings
inside Easter Road Stadium between 11 am and
noon on the first Monday of each month and
supporters of all clubs are more than welcome.
Anyone wishing to attend should have the
capability of making their own way to Easter
Road Stadium either on their own or
accompanied by friends or family who will also
be made welcome.
All welcome. Tea coffee and biscuits will be
supplied. There is no charge.

Reminiscence
Living Memory Association
The Living Memory Assocation’s dedicated
reminiscence room contains shelves stuffed full
of bygone bric-a-brac (1920’s OXO tins to 1970’s
platform shoes). Plenty of old photos and images
adorn the walls and there are big comfy sofas
and arm chairs, to relax and have a blether and
reminisce.
Living Memory run their own groups in the
reminiscence centre but are very keen for others
to use the facilities. Whether you are a group or
individual you are welcome to come and visit.

Singing Groups for People with Dementia and
Their Carers (Inverleith)
Meets twice a month on Thursday afternoons at
Saint Serf’s Church Hall, 1A Clark Road.

Meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the Month

Other Groups
Scottish Dementia Working Group
The Scottish Dementia Working Group (SDWG)
is a national campaigning and awareness-raising
Group whose members all have a diagnosis of
dementia.
The Group welcomes anyone living in Scotland
who is diagnosed with dementia or a related
condition. The only requirement is that you would
like to meet with other people with dementia to
discuss things that really matter to you. There
are bi-monthly meetings in Glasgow and
Dundee.
