Over the past 27 years, since Dr Anne Marie May opened East Barn Surgery, healthcare has changed beyond recognition and unfortunately the listed building at East Barn is no longer suitable for the delivery of primary care to the patients registered at East Barn Surgery. Despite various attempts to move East Barn Surgery, Cedar Medical has been unsuccessful in locating a suitable local site.As a listed building, it is not possible to extend or enhance the present site. Both practices discussed the options available to them and having been in liaison with NHS England and The North Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group, all parties are in full agreement with our proposal that East Barn Surgery and Crown Heights Medical Centre Lychpit Surgery should operate from one site and that this proposal provides the only viable option for both practices. Neither practice has taken this decision lightly. The Lychpit Surgery was in need of refurbishment, but concerns were expressed as to the long-term viability of the site and the opportunity offered through this merger presented us with a solution to invest in the property. Patients from both practices will still be seen in premises local to their homes with East Barn Surgery patients having the minimal inconvenience of being just a few steps from their present location, but still able to continue using the same car park as at present. We will also be endeavouring to transfer the telephone lines from East Barn Surgery over to the new site in order to minimise disruption. Similarly there is a major advantage to both practices in that Dr Lauren James, familiar to the patients of East Barn Surgery, will also be moving to Lychpit Surgery. This enhancement in capacity will be further bolstered through the introduction of additional doctor sessions and more nurse time. It is in this regard that we have sought to provide both practices’ patients with the assurance that they will continue to enjoy the mainstay of general practice, which is through developing and maintaining a relationship with the same doctor and also ensuring that there will be more clinical cover at the merged site. Based upon this premise, Crown Heights Medical Centre has refurbished the Lychpit site. This will provide patients of both practices the opportunity to see a healthcare professional in accommodation which is more suitable to delivering care in the 21st century. You will also have the opportunity to utilise the facilities at Crown Heights Medical Centre main site, which is centrally located between the rail and bus stationsin the town centre and to take advantage of some of the additional services that small practices cannot accommodate, such as minor operations, dietician, physiotherapy. We value the input of our patients, therefore if you have questions, comments or concerns about this merger you may write to, or email, our respective senior managers at the addresses below: Pat Bray Operations Manager Stefan Morawiec Practice Manager pat.bray@nhs.net stefan.morawiec@nhs.net As we near the merger date, we will provide leaflets in the surgeries and information will be posted on our respective web sites at www.eastbarnsurgery.nhs.uk or www.crownheightsmedicalcentre.co.uk. If you do not wish to be automatically transferred to Crown Heights Medical Centre Lychpit Surgery, you may exercise your choice and seek registration at another surgery. Details of local surgeries are available from NHS Choices (www.nhs.uk) or you can obtain a list of adjacent practices from either surgery. Yours sincerely, Dr Gemma Adamson Clinical Director Cedar Medical Dr Judith Pagdin CrownHeights Medical Centre
