The story of Stomil reaches back to 1928 when it was owned by the city’s Electric Railway
and only started its career in rubber industry. In 1934, the licence agreement with the
American General Tire and Rubber Company enabled the Company to introduce world-level
technology. The factory opened its laboratory where materials for production and end
products were tested. The run of good luck was broken by World War II due to which, the
premises were partially burnt and most of the people made redundant. It was not without a
great effort, that the destroyed by military actions plant, was finally rebuilt after 1945.
Innovative, customized production technologies were being introduced.
In 1947 the first Polish tyre manufacture mould was produced, and in 1956, also the first
tubeless tyre in Poland. As early as in 1968 computer data processing was introduced. The
company also invested in the development of future human resources – establishing and
furnishing Chemical Secondary School.
In 1971 production of giant-tyres for earthmoving machines was started.
In 1992 STOMIL became a joint-stock company wholly owned by the State Treasury, today
the company is a member of the Polish Armaments Group.
