Wayne Miller #4134
2012 Stephen Dearnley Medalist #42
Wayne Miller was nominated by the members of the Bunbury Branch for his services
towards the Ulysses Club and his constant involvement and commitment towards the
branch. Wayne’s nomination was read at the Maryborough AGM and read as follows.
“The members of the Bunbury Branch would like to nominate our founding member Wayne
Miller (member # 4134) for Dearnley Medal of the Ulysses Group.
Wayne founded the Bunbury Branch, with 5 other members of the “Lords” motorcycle group
in 1984. Over the years the other members have either departed ways from the club,
retired or have “ridden on”. Wayne is our longest serving member, and is still actively
involved in the running of the club. Wayne has been a past President, Secretary and
Treasurer over the past 29 years that Bunbury has been operating.
In 1994, Wayne instigated the Bunbury AGM, which was a huge success, and is still talked
about today by the general public in Bunbury and surrounds. Wayne and his wife Hazel,
have attended the majority of Ulysses AGM over the years, and is usually the member that
represents the Bunbury Branch at the AGM meetings.
Wayne is a constant ride leader on our organized and ‘clayton’ rides. If not a ride leader, he
is a regular ‘tail end charlie’. We on the committee, rely on Wayne’s input in the running of
the club, knowledge of the local area and every day input relating to the Ulysses Group.
Wayne will not hesitate to let us know if we go outside the constitution, and remind us what
“Ulysses” stands for. Wayne will be the first to volunteer for anything associated with the
Group, being the first to arrive and the last to leave.
Today we still run the Branch as a casual, fun group, designed for all motorcycle riders to get
together, ride bikes and enjoy ourselves, as per the standards that were set by Wayne and
the other founding members. Wayne has set a high example for our members, which we all
try our hardest to achieve.”
Bunbury held a special presentation night on July 5th to
present Wayne with both his medal and certificate.
“It is a big surprise. It is so rewarding to be a member of
this great club and the fellowship that it brings. Thank you
all so much for such an honour as this” Wayne said at the
presentation.
All the members of the Bunbury branch extend their
congratulations to Wayne for winning this medal.
