Student Support & Development Team October 8, 2014 – 2:00pm Vermilion Hall, Conference Room 306 Attendees: Stacy Ehmen, Ashley Hargrove, Shanay Huerta, Jessica Miles, Marji Larson, Becky Doss, Wesley Brown, Sheila Walter, Kathy Leary, Sandy Dreher I. II. III. IV. V. Volunteers: A. Kathy Leary will represent the Student Support and Development team at the CQI Quality Council. B. Ashley Hargrove will take minutes for Student Support and Development team meeting. Activities for Spirit Week 2014 – October 20-23, 2014 A. Stacy has been in touch with Tim to arrange free game passes for students that donate to the food pantry during spirit week. She is also working on a drawing for a tablet. Students would be able to enter the drawing by donating to the food pantry. B. Becky and Wes will work on marketing for spirit week. An e-mail promoting Spirit Week will be sent to faculty and staff to encourage them to inform students about Spirit Week and registration. Becky will also let Nick know about Spirit Week so that College Express is included. C. Becky and Maggie are working on pictures for the costume contest. D. Monday (Oct. 20th) is wear your favorite team wear day, Tuesday (Oct. 21st) is the chili cook-off and spooky treats, Wednesday (Oct. 22nd) is the costume contest, and Thursday (Oct. 23rd) is show your Jaguar spirit day. E. Chili cook-off will be held from 11:00am – 1:00pm on October 21st, with set-up at 10:30am. F. The Guild will be playing video games on the big screen in Bremer Theater on October 22nd from 12:00pm - 3:00pm. Students will be encouraged to dress up as well to coincide with the costume contest. G. Voting for the costume contest will take place via DACC e-mail. There will be prizes for individuals and groups in the categories of scary and creative for students and faculty/staff. Additional Fall 2014 Activities A. Movie night is on hold until after Spirit Week. Other Items from the Floor A. Wes mentioned giving free hot dogs to students wearing a costume for the contest on Wednesday. B. Shelia mentioned having a candy give-away as a registration reminder. Candy will have a note attached reminding students to register before December 23rd. Candy will be handed out at each building on campus. Sandy will have a student pass out candy in the Tech Center, Marji will have a student pass out candy in Mary Miller, and Ashley will have a student pass out candy in Clock Tower. Sheila also mentioned needing a schedule for staff to work at the chili cook-off. C. Shanay brought up the idea of having desserts at the chili cook-off. Desserts were also judged last year. Spooky treats will also be a part of the chili cook-off this year. D. Stacy will e-mail faculty and staff about entering chili or desserts for the competition. Stacy will also ask Subway if they are interested in running any specials during Spirit Week. Next Meeting A. The next Student Support & Development team meeting will be Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 2:00pm in the Copper Penny Room.
