World Humanities Syllabus 2014-2015 Mrs. Cox Paisley IB Magnet School World Humanities will be a humanities journey like no other you have ever taken. You will dig deep into many topics in humanities that are usually not covered until you take specific college classes. You will find the course to be a fascinating blend of study encompassing different societies and cultures within these major topics: the “human ideal,” views on morality, how societies and cultures address morality, interpretations of justice, individual rights and the common good, effects of a society’s environment on its culture, how imperialism and colonialism impact culture, and the effects of innovation on culture and ideologies. This class will also enhance the knowledge you will gain in your other humanities classes this year. General Information: 1. There is not a textbook for this class. 2. You must bring a composition notebook, loose paper, and pen/pencils daily. Use only black or blue ink for assignments that will be turned in to me. 3. Class will be computer website driven with the teacher as facilitator. If you can bring your own device that would be great. Your teacher is certified for BYOD. We will need to complete forms at the start of the school year. 4. Assignments will come in multiple forms: seminars, quizzes, tests, projects, classwork and homework 5.
