ADOPTION AGREEMENT
Foothill Horse Rescue, present residence at 31495 Lynx Lane Prather, CA 93651,
hereinafter referred to as FHR, will hold this adoption agreement confidential; limiting the
knowledge of same to the FHR Executive Board, and selected personnel necessary to
transport animal(s). It is the option of the Adoptee(s) to inform whomever they wish.
Animals adopted from this organization may have been previously abused and/or
neglected by their former owners (or lack of owners). Therefore, no guarantee regarding the
animal is written, implied or expressed. The Adoptee agrees to hold harmless FHR
organization and members, its heirs or assigns, forever.
FURTHER, Adoptee(s) agree to accept the regulations set forth by FHR, to wit:
1. To adopt a horse from FHR, a person must be knowledgeable in the handling of horses.
Care and feeding instructions shall be provided according to each horse’s needs.
2. The adoption fee is dependent upon the age and health of the horse. This adoption fee
helps cover some of the costs incurred in bringing the horse back to good health.
3. The adoptee shall provide preventive care. Including, but not limited to: inoculations,
parasite control, dentistry, hoof care and veterinary care for illness or injury. The adoptee
shall notify FHR of accidental or natural death of their horse.
4. A barn, stable or three-sided roofed structure must be provided for shelter. A safe and
secure pasture, paddock or corral must be provided with enough room for the horse to run
freely. Individual horses may have special requirements.

5. Stallions must be gelded and breeding of mares is prohibited.
6. I agree to send recent photographs (head and body shots) and information about the
condition of the horse(s) to FHR once monthly for the first six months and once a year
thereafter.
7. Sale, transfer, assignment or encumbrance of any horse adopted from FHR is prohibited.
8. The horse(s) can be returned to FHR at any time at no cost to the adoptee if:

The adopter is financially unable to care for the horse.

The horse is no longer wanted or needed.
However, the adoption fee for said horse(s) is non-refundable and cannot be applied to
another adoption.
9. Location changes of the horse must be filed with FHR and we reserve the right to check
in on the care of the horse(s), without advanced notification.
10. The Executive Board reviews applications and will conduct personal interviews.
Adoption agreements are confidential and limited to the knowledge of the FHR Executive
Board. The Executive Board grants final approval.
11. Any adoptee requiring FHR to transport horse(s) will be charged a fee of $1.55 per mile.
12. Default of any terms or conditions written herein, FHR is authorized to take possession
of, seize and retain ownership of said animal(s) named herein.
