FICHE PRATIQUE UTILISATEURS Prevention alert to keep viruses from spreading Dear user, The World is currently facing an unprecedented onslaught of cyber attacks. The ongoing cybercrime activity comes on the heels of recent events and includes website hacking, e-mail phishing and virus campaigns in large volumes with the purpose of destabilizing the internet. Indeed, Vade Retro – the company whose solutions have been protecting our e-mails – has announced that the usual number of viruses being sent has multiplied tenfold, without any decrease in the number of spam messages sent. Virus waves are extremely virulent, have very advanced features and are therefore of potential danger to our infrastructure. The IT department, in collaboration with all its partners, is doing everything in its power to deal with such attacks. However, user behavior is important in containing these attacks. Emails carrying viruses show up as messages including attachments (documents, images, archives, etc). It is very important to be particularly vigilant when opening attachments, especially when the sender is unknown. To ensure maximum safety, please abide by the following guidelines: Open suspicious email attachments (.zip, .doc or .xls) only if the sender is confirmed. Opening a malicious file will immediately infect the computer. Delete messages form unknown senders without replying. Decline any acknowledgements of receipt if an unknown sender appears suspicious. You might otherwise risk confirming and sharing your email address without your knowledge. Report emails identified as spam to your IT department. They will then be sent to the company responsible for protecting your mailboxes so that their filter technology may take this into account. In case of any doubt, please contact me so that we can conduct all checks together. If you have suspicions about a link, copy the address to Isitphishing.org to find out whether it redirects to a phishing website. On the following page, you will see two examples of emails carrying viruses. In addition to the technological aspect and extreme vigilance of our teams, fighting this scourge requires everybody’s involvement investment and collaboration.
