Healthcare Genetics Program held a seminar on the topic of “Advances in Healthcare Genetics
with Application to Patient Care” on May 24th, 2013. Twelve HCG doctoral students had
presented on this seminar. Also, Dr. Julie Jone, Dr. Jane DeLuca, Dr. F. Alex Feltus, Dr. Holisa
Wharton and Ms. Jennifer Lee Stallworth were guest speakers for this seminar. This seminar
was awarded 5.5 CEU credits. Discussion was the genetics/genomics information to patient care
in a variety of healthcare settings with special attention to genetic testing for diseases,
pharmacogenomics testing in clinical specialties and the ethical dilemmas and policy issues that
arise with availability of new genetic tests. Around 30 people attended this seminar.
Next HCGS meeting will be hold at middle of August. The date and place will send out by email.
