Course Outcome Competencies: Upon completion of this course the student should be able to: Explain the components of organizational environments. Discuss the criteria used in choosing an appropriate organizational intervention strategy. Describe the systems approach to the study of organizations. Critique an organization’s current structure and problems. Discuss the relationship of an organization’s structure and culture. 14. Attendance Requirements: Students enrolled at the University’s campus should make every effort to attend all class meetings. All absences must be explained to the instructor. According to the Wayland University Academic Catalog any student who misses 25 percent (4 classes) or more of the regularly scheduled class meetings may receive a grade of “F” in the course. The Instructor will make every effort to work with the students on absences, tardiness or early departures to minimize a reduction in classroom points. Students who have an unavoidable absence planned (e.g. TDY) can discuss alternatives with the instructor. Each student and circumstance will be treated on a case-bycase situation and with the interest of maintaining academic integrity and class completion. 15. Documentation of a disability must accompany any request for accommodations.” 16: Course Requirements and Grading Criteria: Organizational Design Presentation – Presentation will be delivered to the class, including but not limited to the following: Thesis statement, 3 organizational models, restated thesis, APA reference page. Time limit will be determined by the number of students enrolled in the course. Students who are absent, for any reason, should still submit slides on due date or before. Grading matrix will be provided to students. Midterm and Final Exams - Two major exams, a midterm and a final, will be given during the term. Both exams will cover reading assignments, class lectures, and classroom discussion. All classroom notes are approved for the test, but the textbook will not be allowed. Expect at least two essay questions on each test. All questions will be taken directly from class lectures and the textbook. Organizational Design Paper (APA) – Organizational design paper is a companion to the Organizational Design Presentation. Due the last day of class, prior to taking the final exam. No more than six pages in length, including the title page and reference page, four pages of scholarly text (APA writing standard). This is not an English class, if you need help writing your paper consult the latest edition of the APA manual. Participation – Students are expected to participate in class discussions. Reading is essential to participate. Every class will have some sort of group exercise; students are expected to participate in civil discussions with each other. All ideas, statements, opinions, etc. will be supported with information from class discussion or the textbook (or some other factual or academic source). Subject of Evaluation Points 1. Additional information as desired by the faculty member: The students will adhere to a “Zero Tolerance” for using someone else’s work as your own. If anyone is discovered using someone else’s work, they will get an “F” for the final grade of the course. Proctor Hours Midterm and Final Exam will be administered in the classroom. Students with special circumstances will inform the Instructor so a proctored test can be scheduled with the Wayland Baptist Landmark office.
