ISO CRS Specialist Christina Groves will present a day long course covering a
number of credit eligible activities in the community rating system. These
sections include 310: Elevation Certificates, 330: Outreach and PPI, 410:
COURSE DESCRIPTION Floodplain Mapping, 420: Open Space Preservation, 430: Higher Regulatory
Standards, 440: Flood Data Maintenance, 450: Stormwater Management,
510: Floodplain Management Planning, 540: Drainage System Maintenance,
and 600: Warning and Response.
WHY TAKE THIS
COURSE?
This course focuses on implementing various activities in the CRS. It is
invaluable for staff from both localities that currently participate in CRS and
wish to increase their points and those that are hoping to join the program. The
course will also include hands on exercises to tackle a variety of problems that
CRS communities often encounter.
INSTRUCTORS
This course will be taught by Virginia’s designated Insurance Services Office
(ISO) CRS specialist, Christina Groves.
Local officials responsible for administering local floodplain management

ordinances. The course is limited to 30 participants. Preference will be given

Localities are limited to two participants each. Additional staff from a locality
may apply to the course waitlist. An email will be sent out to the waitlist on July
13th allowing for registration for any remaining seats which will be admitted on
a first-come, first-served basis. With sufficient interest, a second course may be
scheduled for 2015 so even if you cannot make this course, let DCR know you
are interested in attending another offering.

Bring a paper copy of your local floodplain ordinance. The course will have a
hands on exercise to evaluate opportunities to improve the level of protection
provided by your community ordinance while improving the amount
