Aurora Deputy Police Chief Terry Jones named Interim Chief National search will be conducted to replace Oates Aurora Deputy Police Chief Terry Jones has been named as the Aurora Police Department’s interim police chief. Current Police Chief Dan Oates announced his resignation after more than nine years of dedicated service to Aurora. He will serve as the chief of police of Miami Beach, Fl. Jones’ appointment as interim police chief will be effective Friday, May 30, 2014. Jones has served as the Aurora Police Department deputy chief since 2002. During his 35-year career here, Jones has held a variety of assignments from patrol officer and field training officer to an investigator in Vice and Narcotics, public information officer, watch commander and division chief. Jones also served as the interim chief in 2005. The city of Aurora will conduct a national search for the new police chief and expects to have the position filled by the end of the year.
