Policies and Procedures for Testing Center MSC/Tishomingo MSC/Ardmore Mission Statement for Academic Testing: The mission of Murray State College Testing Centers is to assist faculty and students by providing high quality academic testing in a supportive educational environment. Murray State College Testing Center Essential Functions: Provide outstanding customer service by being friendly, courteous, responsible, informative, accurate and supportive. Collaborate with our faculty and administrators, to keep abreast with the most recent changes in all aspects of our testing services. Offer computer-based and/or paper-pencil testing services in a secure, clean, comfortable and quiet environment. General Student Information: Student must show a valid MSC ID or other government-issued photo ID before test will be administered. Student must provide course information (instructor’s name, course name or ID, exam name or number) to receive test. Student must sign in and list all the correct information before testing. Student must bring all materials necessary for testing: i.e., calculators, Blue Book, photo ID, Scantron, Pencils, etc. Nothing will be allowed in the testing area which is not included in instructor’s directions for taking the test. No electronic devices will be allowed in the testing area. No children or non-testers will be allowed in the testing area. No talking will be allowed in the testing area. Tests are assumed to be closed book and closed notes unless otherwise specified on the Request Form. If instructions are not specific, students will not be allowed use of any aids while testing. The Testing Center will not be responsible for any personal property. The Testing Center will provide a location for articles such as a small purse. If a student must bring a laptop or other valuables, it will need to be left in the proctor’s office. 1 Once the testing has begun the student may not leave the room unless he or she turns in the test Students must turn in all papers, including scrap paper and worksheets used by a student during a test will be returned with the test. Test Scheduling Faculty Faculty should schedule tests as early as possible. This also applies to all computerbased (on-line) tests. Faculty must supply a roster for students who will be taking the test. This list will only be required at the beginning of the semester. Faculty must include an approximate number of students taking any makeup test. This information will be housed in a locked filing cabinet for security. Faculty must fill out an Instructor Exam Admission Form for the Testing Center which will allow instructions to be followed for tests. This includes any material such as open book, Scantrons, notes, etc. This will only be required at the beginning of the semester or for any last minute make up exams. Forms must include the instructor’s name and extension number. Instructors name, class information must be on the tests if paper/pencil. Faculty will need the type of test being administered (on-line (in what format) Blackboard, Course compass, etc.,) paper/pencil and all instructions for the test and which class section(s) will take the test. Faculty must notify The Testing Center of all test dates which includes the beginning and ending date along with the length of testing time. Faculty are required to give The Testing Center a copy of the test early enough to be on hand when students come to take the test. The tests will be kept in a locked filing cabinet for security. Faculty are responsible for the delivery and pickup of tests and include instructions for return of tests if not pick up in person. Paper tests will be returned to faculty via campus mail unless other instructions are given. The Testing Centers are not responsible for the security of exams once they leave the office. Delivery should be noted on the request form. Faculty, if possible, should provide a paper version of any on-line test to keep on hand in case of computer outage or computer program glitch. Faculty must inform students to contact the Testing Center to schedule testing times or for make arrangements for after hour testing via e-mail (preferred) or phone. Testing Center Policies: The Testing Center proctors paper/pencil and computer based tests. The Testing Center will be open on days that classes are in session according to the student academic calendar. The center will be closed for emergency or weather-related cancellations. Students must check in with the testing center early enough to allow for the entire amount of time that has been indicated on the request form. If students arrive after the 2 allotted time they will not be allowed to take the exam, and the instructor will be notified. Any changes must be made by the instructor in advance. The Testing Center is responsible for the security of the exams while in custody of the Testing Centers. Once the test has been returned to the instructor/department by campus mail, mail, or personally picked up, the Testing Center takes no responsibility for the exam. Ensuring Academic Honesty All exams are proctored. Student Photo ID’s are required. Questions covering any tests, grading, or other matters are referred to the instructor. Students may not leave the room once the exam has started. Nothing is allowed at the computer or testing module site except materials instructed for use by the Instructor and must be indicated on the request form. If a student has been observed copying another individual’s test, using or attempting to use unauthorized material, engaging in help or assistance from another student, communicating information by any electronic device, will be removed from the Testing Center area, and not allowed to complete the test. The proctor will collect all material and inform the instructor of the infraction by e-mail, phone call, and/or report sent with the exam. Exam Proctoring Exams will be proctored by Testing Center Staff. The proctor is responsible for maintaining exam confidentiality and security. Proctor must make sure the tester has signed in properly including the starting time and ending time. Proctor must check Photo ID against the class roster or list. Proctors are not allowed to answer any related questions or paraphrase questions. The proctor will not assist the tester by changing the wording or correcting grammar in any way. Proctors will not read or write an exam for a class they may eventually take or are currently taking. A proctor who witnesses any attempt to use material not authorized by the instructor or Testing Center Staff should inform the student that the material has not been authorized. If the student persists then the tester will be asked to leave and the instructor will be notified of the infraction. When the allotted time for the exam has ended proctors should inform the student they are out of time. Proctor will collect all exam materials, place in exam folder to be filed in the proper file cabinet.
