In room 5, Cedar class, the skylight is
cracked. The skylight is not leaking
water and has a special film over it so
it cannot shatter.
Room 1, Oak Class: wires behind
interactive white board need some
kind of trunking. Board moves up and
down, so wires hang loose over book
boxes when board lowered.
Younger boys' toilet smells; had not
been cleaned on morning of inspection.
(Also reported by SL-B on 14.2.13; is
there a problem?)
Playgroup: Roof leaks where attached
to wall above notice board. This gets
wet when it rains.
Balls in gutter need removing.
GROUNDS MAINTENANCE 1 year
contract is with Glendale.
PEST CONTROL – Nottingham Pest
control 1 year contract
TREE INSPECTION Has been done.
Work to be done by NCC in April.
RABBIT HOLES are ok at the
moment.
OUTSIDE PLAY EQUIPMENT mainly

Beech class are rusty at the bottom
and need painting. The boat steering
wheel needs attention.
PERGOLA SEATS (BY OAK
CLASSROOM) Was fixed, but one
trellis slat had come loose; removed
by Miss Allen for safety. Several seat
planks are loose. Trellis on right hand
side needs screwing back.
TRAIN The edging to the front of
this is cracked and sharp leaving an
area that could easily scratch
children. This still needs repairing
from the last but one inspection.
Wheels have been removed.
SHED AND PLAY HOUSE DOORS –
Oak class door now has child proof
hook as requested last time. Chestnut
class also has a tie back on their door.
Trevor has provided a clip to hold the
door shut, this is working well.
PLATFORM PLAY – in old yard.
Astroturf cleaned, but Sportsafe UK
deemed old trim trail unsafe, so it has
been taped off. To be redeveloped
with outdoor musical instruments.
ASTRO TURF – The Astroturf has
been cleaned by Mr.Sansum. Great
improvement
THE GOAL POSTS on the field are
sturdy but need repainting. NOT
DONE WEATHER DEPENDENT
THE GUTTERING by Oak class has
been cleared out and replaced.
THE PLAYHOUSES Oak class had
window repaired, but two windows are

cracked and taped. Windows replaced
with corrugated plastic.
THE TARMAC outside the door by
the staffroom and exterior door by
the unused KS2 toilet exit has some
moss. Trevor reported no COSHH
approved chemical to clear moss
(01.02.2013). This and the tarmac
around the front of the school will
need regular monitoring.
RISK ASSESSMENT SHEETS
Trevor completes visual check Risk
assessments for the play areas
outside rooms 1,2,3 and the general
playground area. He needs to always
make sure that there is no bird mess
on the rotating wooden log on the trim
trail. Janette will add this to his list.
THE BUS SHELTER AND
BANDSTAND – outside Beech and
Maple class. The litter situation is
much improved.
OAK CLASS DRAIN – The drain has
not flooded recently but hasn't been
resolved.
PLAYGROUP OUTDOOR AREA – This
is improved but again will need
monitoring.
CANOPY RUST – the canopies
outside maple and cedar still have
some rusty sections but don’t seem to
have deteriorated any further. These
appear to be cosmetic at the moment
but need monitoring.
THE FENCE BY PLAYGROUPS
PLANTERS is now safe.

22. GATES TO CLASS PLAY AREAS
AND ON THE GATE BY THE
BANDSTAND. Gates to class play
areas now have restraining hooks.
Janette has already asked teachers
to hook open gates for playtime this
does seem to require constant
reminding though. Janette needs to
speak to all staff so that they can all
check when on playground duty.
Janette to
speak to all
staff
23. The gate by the bandstand still has no
tie back. A hook to hold the gate back
needs to be attached and at the start
and end of school we need to ensure
that the gate is hooked open.
Caretaker to

REMEDIAL WORK UNDERTAKEN TO STAFF ROOM

EMERGENCY LIGHTING - we have a
contract with Central Fire and Security (via
Crimson)
Staff find it irritating that the lights dim
quickly when children are not in the class and
they are working in the new laptop positions.
However, Trevor says that there is no way to
increase the time on the dimming sensor. The
sensors help us to be a more energy efficient
school and we have improved in our energy
efficiency when we had a recent inspection

MATTERS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS H&S GOVS REPORT
Items in green were on the last H&S Govs report and those in yellow have been on for 2 reports and are still not resolved.
Trevor has 5 unresolved items, Janette 1 and the decorators were due to sort out 2 items. Bad weather meant that it was not possible
for exterior paintwork to be carried out.
This is an improvement from last terms inspection when there were 10 unresolved items. Thank you, Trevor.
