Open Data Dataset Publishing Guidelines Dataset Publishing Guideline Purpose: The objective of this guideline is to assist ministries in determining which data is most valuable to publish, provide the Data Custodians with additional information on the proposed dataset and finally to obtain approval before posting the dataset to the Open Data Portal 1. GoA Corporate Open Data Value Framework: Purpose: The GoA Open Data Value Framework will assist ministries in determining which data is most valuable to publish first. The Value Framework contains an Evaluation Criteria table that guides ministries in determining which of their proposed datasets would be candidates for initial release on the Open Data Portal Once completed, the Data Value Framework may be retained within your branch/division for future reference. 2. Dataset Evaluation Form: Purpose: The Dataset Evaluation Form is used to gather information on prospective datasets for inclusion in the GoA Open Data Portal. The Open Data Custodians and Data Owners will be able to use the completed form to recommend whether the identified dataset, or portions of the dataset would be suitable for public release. Once completed, the Dataset Evaluation Form may be retained within your branch/division for future reference. 3. Open Data Assessment Checklist: Purpose: The Open Data Approval Checklist is the final step before the dataset is posted to the Open Data Portal. Data Owners must fill out the checklist to ensure that data meets the requirements for publication under the Open Data Portal. This ensures that area such as Privacy, Copyright and Security are address prior to posting. The approval of an Data Executive (Assistant Deputy Minister or delegate) is required for inclusion of the dataset(s) in the Open Data Portal. Once completed a copy of the Open Data Assessment Checklist will remain with the ministry Data Custodian and the original will be sent to the Open Government Office Team (Data@gov.ab.ca) Open Data Dataset Publishing Process Start Data owner obtains Data Value Framework Document Framework is completed to determine which data is most valuable to publish first Data Owner obtains the Dataset Evaluation Form Data Custodians receive completed form Data Custodians and Data Owners will review form and identify if dataset is suitable for public release Data Custodians provide the Open Data Approval Checklist to Data Owner Open Data Approval Checklist is completed by Data Owner and provided to Data Custodians Data Custodian sends copy of Checklist to data@gov.ab .ca Dataset is posted on the Open Data Portal End
