Open Data Dataset Publishing Guidelines
Dataset Publishing Guideline Purpose:
The objective of this guideline is to assist ministries in determining which data is most valuable to publish, provide
the Data Custodians with additional information on the proposed dataset and finally to obtain approval before
posting the dataset to the Open Data Portal
1.
GoA Corporate Open Data Value Framework:
Purpose:
The GoA Open Data Value Framework will assist ministries in determining which data is most valuable to publish
first. The Value Framework contains an Evaluation Criteria table that guides ministries in determining which of
their proposed datasets would be candidates for initial release on the Open Data Portal
Once completed, the Data Value Framework may be retained within your branch/division for future reference.
2.
Dataset Evaluation Form:
Purpose:
The Dataset Evaluation Form is used to gather information on prospective datasets for inclusion in the GoA Open
Data Portal. The Open Data Custodians and Data Owners will be able to use the completed form to recommend
whether the identified dataset, or portions of the dataset would be suitable for public release.
Once completed, the Dataset Evaluation Form may be retained within your branch/division for future reference.
3.
Open Data Assessment Checklist:
Purpose:
The Open Data Approval Checklist is the final step before the dataset is posted to the Open Data Portal. Data
Owners must fill out the checklist to ensure that data meets the requirements for publication under the Open Data
Portal. This ensures that area such as Privacy, Copyright and Security are address prior to posting. The approval of
an Data Executive (Assistant Deputy Minister or delegate) is required for inclusion of the dataset(s) in the Open
Data Portal.
Once completed a copy of the Open Data Assessment Checklist will remain with the ministry Data Custodian and
the original will be sent to the Open Government Office Team (Data@gov.ab.ca)
