Medicines New Zealand Value of Medicines Award 2015 Through the Value of Medicines Award Medicines New Zealand aims to support an outstanding piece of research that will improve the understanding, effectiveness or safety of the use of medicines or vaccines in New Zealand. The objective of the Award is to stimulate and reward contemporary research. The Award will take the form of a single payment of $20,000 to the chosen individual or research team. Eligibility This award is for a single item of recently completed or proposed original research to be completed in any health related field which includes the development of and use of medicines or vaccines. - Recently completed research must have been completed and published within the last 24 months; - Proposed research that builds on an existing piece of completed research is eligible; (Preference will be given to research planned to commence within 12 months.) Candidates must be either New Zealand citizens or permanent residents (non resident citizens are also eligible). Nomination Nominations should include a two to four page executive summary with supporting documents attached. The nomination should describe how the research improves the understanding, effectiveness or safety of the use of medicines or vaccines in New Zealand. Nominations should be received by 9am Thursday 27 August 2015. Research sponsored by Medicines New Zealand will not be eligible. Selection Criteria Award selection is competitive, based on research merit. Benefit to society through improving the understanding, effectiveness or safety of the use of medicines or vaccines in New Zealand is a major criterion. The work should have direct relevance to the current or future provision of healthcare in New Zealand. Evidence of external review (such as that done by research funding bodies) provided in the supporting documentation will be viewed favourably. Individuals may hold/have held scientific, commercially focused or healthcare professional roles. Academic, and translational research will be given equal weighting. The judging panel will be comprised of two Medicines New Zealand Board members and two independent research clinicians. The winner will be presented with the award at a Medicines New Zealand Parliamentary Dinner in Wellington on Wednesday 16 September 2015 and have the opportunity to address the audience should they wish. The Award winner (or their nominee) is entitled to have their travel within New Zealand, to receive the Award, covered by Medicines New Zealand. Terms & Conditions 1. It is the nominator’s responsibility to ensure the Award entry has been received by Medicines New Zealand. 5. Eligibility criteria are listed above. 6. Ownership of the research must be established to the Judges’ satisfaction. 7. The winner will be notified by Medicines New Zealand not later than Monday 7 September 2015. 8. The winner will be announced at a Medicines New Zealand Parliamentary Dinner on Wednesday 16 September 2015. 9. The winner is eligible to have their travel expenses within New Zealand to attend the Award presentation covered by Medicines New Zealand, if they based outside of Wellington. 10. The Judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. 11. The winner agrees to participate in all reasonable publicity associated with the Value of Medicines Award. 12. The nominator should advise their nominee of being nominated and confirm agreement with these terms. 13. The Award is to be used to support further research. 14. Proposed research will be presented at a mutually agreed meeting or conference within six months of its completion.
