RULE BOOK REVISION (2013) CONSTITUTION ARTICLE 1: NAME Sect. 1: The name of this association shall be Eastern Kansas Horseman's Association, Inc. ARTICLE 2: OBJECTIVES Sect. 1: To promote and assist the riding clubs of Kansas in the care, use, handling, and development of the western horse. Sect. 2: To encourage good sportsmanship and proper conduct among horsemen and horsewomen and to foster good will and cooperation among the riding clubs of Kansas. Sect. 3: To hold a State Show of participants from approved member club shows. Sect. 4: This association shall own and hold the exclusive rights to produce its Annual State Show. Sect. 5: This association shall be a non-profit organization and shall not be operated for pecuniary profit and there shall be no capital stock. ARTICLE 3: MEMBERSHIP Sect. 1: Any active, organized riding club using western equipment and interested in the aims of this association shall be eligible to membership in the association upon payment of the membership fee as fixed by this association, providing it has been sponsored by a member club and elected by a majority vote of the body. ARTICLE 4: REPRESENTATION Sect. 1: Each member club in good standing shall be allowed two directors, regardless of the number of club members, and these directors shall constitute the voting body of the association. Sect. 2: Each club will be allowed two voting delegates at all meetings. ARTICLE 5: OFFICERS & DIRECTORS Sect. 1: Officers of the EKHA shall be: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and a Board of Directors consisting of two members from each club. The outgoing President shall serve one year as assistant to the President. Sect. 2: The officers shall be selected from the membership at large. The officers shall hold office for a term of two years. An office is not to be held by the same person for more than two consecutive terms (4 years). ARTICLE 6: EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE Sect 1: The executive committee of this association shall consist of the President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The executive committee shall in the absence of specified direction of the Board of Directors of the voting body, have the sole power to authorize the execution of any of its funds. ARTICLE 7: MEETINGS 2 Sect. 1: Meetings of this association shall be held at such times and places as determined by the Board of Directors. Sect. 2: Roberts Rule of Order shall prevail at all meetings of the association. Sect. 3: A quorum will be comprised of a simple majority of voting delegates present. (New 04) BY-LAWS ARTICLE 1: DUES Sect. 1: The dues for each member club shall be set by the Board of Directors, payable in advance to the State Secretary. The dues shall be fixed by a majority two-thirds of the voting body. Member clubs whose dues are not paid by the first of March shall be notified by the State Secretary and those dues who are not paid by the first of April shall be dropped from the membership roll. Member clubs dropped for non-payment of dues may reinstate at any time by the payment of the current year's dues. ARTICLE 2: FISCAL YEAR Sect. 1: The fiscal year of this association shall be the calendar year. Officers and Directors elected at annual meetings shall take office on the first of January following the election. ARTICLE 3: OFFICERS Sect. 1: The President shall be the chief executive officer of the association and he/she shall preside at all regular and special meetings of members and the Board of Directors; he/she shall see that orders of the voting body and the Board of Directors are carried into effect, he/she shall execute or cause to be executed any contracts of the association authorized by the executive committee; he/she shall appoint all committees unless otherwise provided and he/she shall be an ex-officio member of such committees. Sect 2: The Vice-President shall act for the President in the absence of that officer and in case of a vacancy in the office of the President, he/she shall fill said office until the next regular election. The VicePresident shall chair the EKHA rules committee. Sect. 3: The Secretary shall keep an accurate record of the proceedings of all meetings of the membership of the Board of Directors in a book provided by the association for that purpose and shall keep accurate records of dues and turn same to the Treasurer at thirty day intervals and shall perform like duties for committee meetings when so required. He/she shall be an ex-officio member of all committees and a member of the executive committee. He/she shall give cause to be given notice of all meetings, regular and special, to the members and Board of Directors and shall perform such other duties as prescribed by the President or Board of Directors. Sect. 4: The Treasurer shall keep a full and accurate account of all receipts and disbursements of the association in a book provided by the association for that purpose and shall deposit all money of the association and other valuable effects in the name and to the credit of the association in such depository as designated by the Board of Directors. He/she shall disburse the funds of the association upon order of the executive committee. He/she shall render to the association at any regular or special meeting, if required, a complete account of his/her transactions as Treasurer and of the financial condition of the association. He/she shall furnish bonds to be paid for by the association in such sums and with such sureties as may be satisfactory to the Board of Directors for the faithful performance of his/her duties. The Treasurer shall chair the EKHA Financial Committee. Sect. 5: A news editor shall be appointed by the President and be responsible for the publishing of a monthly newsletter to be sent to club secretaries, and other subscribers. The news editor can be, but does not have to be, a current EKHA Officer. The Board of Directors shall set the cost of the newsletter for all recipients. Sect. 6: All officers shall restore to the association in case of death, resignation, or removal from office, all books, papers, vouchers, money or other property belonging to the association. 3 Sect. 7: The Board of Directors shall consist of two members elected by each individual club. The business activities and property of the association shall be managed by the Board of Directors who shall meet as often as deemed necessary. Meetings, other than the annual meeting, may be called any time by the President, Executive committee, or on written request of a majority of the Board of Directors. ARTICLE 4: ELECTIONS Sect. 1: The election of officers shall be held at the annual meeting. The nomination committee, to be appointed by the President and consisting of at least three members from different localities, shall place in nomination candidates to fill existing vacancies. Other nominations may be made from the floor. Sect. 2: The President and Treasurer will be elected in odd years and the Vice-President and Secretary in even years. Sect. 3: Voting shall be by secret ballot. Sect. 4: No officer shall hold the same office for more than two consecutive terms (4 years). ARTICLE 5: VACANCIES Sect. 1: If an officer of this association dies, resigns, is disqualified or otherwise cannot perform the duties of his/her office, the directors will elect a successor to his/her office from the membership at large, who shall hold office during the unexpired term and until his/her successor is elected at the annual meetings; except the office of the President (which is filled by the current Vice President) for the remaining term. Sect. 2: Any officer or director may resign his/her office at any time, providing the resignation is presented in writing and is to take effect immediately upon its receipt by the association unless a time is designated in the resignation. The acceptance of the resignation is not necessary to make it effective. Sect. 3: Any officer or director may be removed from office by two-thirds vote of the entire membership of the Board of Directors providing the charges against such officer have been presented in writing at least thirty days prior to balloting. Sect. 4: Filling of an unexpired term or vacancy is not considered as a term of office. ARTICLE 6: COMPENSATION Sect 1: Officers and Directors of the association, as such, shall not receive compensation for their services, but by resolution of the Board of Directors, may be reimbursed for an actual expense incurred by reason of this office upon submitting a valid receipt. ARTICLE 7: PROCEDURE OF ALL MEETINGS Sect. 1: At the meeting of the association the suggested order of business shall be: A. Roll call B. Reading of minutes C. Report of committees D. Report of treasurer E. Old business F. New business Sect. 2: Voting at all Board of Directors meetings may be by roll call vote, if called for. ARTICLE 8: LIABILITIES Sect. 1: The Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Standing Committees, or Appointed Committees 4 shall not have the power to subject the association to indebtedness exceeding the current funds at the time in the treasury, nor shall it have the power to levy special assignments against the member clubs of this association and member clubs of this association shall not be liable for any debts of the association. ARTICLE 9: AMENDMENTS Sect. 1: The constitution and by-laws of this association may be amended at any regular or special meetings of the voting body by a majority of two-thirds of the voting body, providing the proposed amendment has been read at a previous meeting and copies have been sent to all member clubs at least thirty days prior to balloting. ARTICLE 10: COMMITTEES Sect. 1: Such committees as the president and executive committee may deem essential to carry out the business of the association shall be appointed as herein before provided. The chairperson and members of such committees shall be chosen from the delegates or members of any member club in good standing. Sect. 2: Standing committees of the association are: A. B. C. D. E. Rules Committee Point Keepers Committee Financial Committee State Show Committee Year-end Awards Committee Banquet Committee Nomination Most Improved Rider Sportsmanship ARTICLE 11: RULE CHANGES Sect. 1: Proposed rule changes are to be submitted to the State Secretary, (hard copy/typed), on Proposed Rule Change forms, before July 1st of current year. Sect. 2: State Secretary will forward the completed proposed rule change forms to Rules Committee by August 1st for reading and editing. Proposing club will be contacted if clarification is needed. Sect. 3: State Secretary is to send a final copy of the proposed rule changes to the member clubs before September 1st. Sect. 4: Proposed rule changes will be voted on at the annual meeting by the voting body and if passed, will take effect the following year. Sect. 5: This will be done on a yearly basis. ARTICLE 12: RULEBOOKS Sect. 1: The Board of Directors will set the price of rulebooks. Sect. 2: Rulebooks shall be published by the order of the Board of Directors. HORSE SHOW RULES & REGULATIONS 1. The EKHA shows are produced for western riding club members. Anyone can watch them, but only members of EKHA riding clubs can compete in the arena. Qualifications for entering any class or 5 event of the EKHA shows are, that you must be a member in good standing of a riding club that is a member in good standing of EKHA. 2. The rules committee reserves the right to reject the entry of any contestant or member of EKHA whom has violated the general rules, whom has been dishonest in competition, or whom has proven to be undesirable in any recognized member show event. The management may withdraw any contestant's name and entry, debar him or her from any and all events, and withhold any money due him or her for violation of the following offenses: (1) Being under the influence of liquor, (2) Rowdiness, (3) Mistreatment of children or stock, (4) Altercation or quarreling with judges, officials, or arena committee members (5) Bad checks. 3. EKHA and the host club assume no responsibility or liability for injury or damage to the person, property, or stock of any owner, contestant, or assistant. Each participant by the act of his/her entry, waives all claims against the EKHA/host club for injuries that he/she or his/her property may sustain. 4. The decision of all timers, judges, and all other officials (arena/rules committee) will be final in all matters, relating to the contestants and/or contests in which they are called to officiate. 5. Spectator donation at the gate shall not be more than one dollar ($1) for 12 years and over with no charge for 11 and under, per show. No club can charge twice for a show in case of a partially completed show. One show bill is considered one show even if it is split into two days. 6. To show a horse the owner and rider must be a member in good standing of ANY EKHA club for thirty (30) days, which is a member in good standing of the association, in order to be eligible to participate in the State Show and approved shows using EKHA show rules and regulations. 7. If a horse is purchased or leased, it has to be purchased or leased thirty (30) days before it is used in an EKHA show unless the previous owner or leasor, present rider and owner or leasee are members in good standing of any EKHA club. Any horse may be shown in more than one class or event. 8. Each rider and horse may enter once in a class except in youth timed event classes. In youth timed events only, siblings and/or stepsiblings may enter and ride the same horse in the same event. 9. All horses shall be serviceably sound for the intended purpose. 10. In all judged events, the judge may disqualify a contestant for broken equipment or unsoundness. 11. A horse and rider must have competed, not necessarily placed, in at least three EKHA point shows in order to be eligible for year-end awards in any events. 12. All class entry fee donations must be paid in advance. Class entry fee donations are to be as follows: $1.00 = 18 & under - $2.00 = 19 & over, Open, and Two Contestant Team Events - $4.00 = Western Relay. (Revised 08) 13. There will be a $3.00 office charge per contestant per show to go to EKHA. (See #32.) (Revised 07) 14. Each club may charge a fee of up to $3.00 for each horse entered. This fee is to be kept in full by the host club. (Revised 07) 15. Entry donations will be paid back 80% in all EKHA point shows, with 10% going to the EKHA Treasurer and 10% going to the host club. The 80% payback will have uniform split of money - 40% (1st), 30% (2nd), 20% (3rd), 10% (4th). 80% payback will be paid back to contestants regardless of the number of riders in any given class. (1 rider, 100%, 2 riders, 1 st - 60%, 2nd - 40%; 3 riders, 1st - 50%, 2nd - 30%, 3rd - 20%). There must be four places if four horses are entered. 16. All contestants should read the rules carefully, particularly those relating to the contests or events in which they enter. Failure to understand rules will not be accepted as an excuse. 17. It shall be the responsibility of the exhibitor to enter his/her horse only in the classes to which they are eligible. 6 18. Membership cards may be required upon entering any EKHA approved show. 19. All entries close at the beginning of the previous event. 20. Class Divisions: (1) Senior classes shall consist of contestants 19 years of age and over, on or before January 1 st of the current year. A separate class of Men & Women 19 – 40, Men & Women 41 – 60, and Men & Women 61 & over in all events with multi-age groups, including judged and timed, shall be held. (Revised 13) (2) Junior classes shall consist of contestants 18 years of age or under, as of January 1 st of each year. Junior age group divisions will be specified under rules of each event. A junior must ride in his/her own age group where there are individual events. A junior cannot ride or lead a stallion in any event. (Revised 08) (3) Seniors and juniors shall be governed by the same set of rules. (4) An "Open" event/class will include any age or sex contestant. 21. Any event held in an EKHA approved show must be held in all its respective age groups. 22. Age of horse is as of January 1st of the current year. For example: A horse foaled anytime in 1993 was considered to be one (1) on January 1, 1994, and two (2) on January 1, 1995. 23. Contestants must be on hand to answer the call of the arena director and must comply with all other rules of the EKHA and the show management regarding each particular contest or exhibition. All contestants shall gather outside the entrance prior to their class ready to enter the arena for their event. Failure of the contestant to enter the arena after three (3) calls over the public address system will result in their disqualification in that event. 25. There shall be no substitution of riders OR horses once entries close at the beginning of the previous class/event. (Revised 11) 26. In all riding events horses must be ridden with a western saddle unless the event states optional tack. 27. The arena gate shall be closed at all times while events are in progress. 28. Contestant is privileged, if he/she so desires, to see the record of all contestants in any event in which he/she takes part at the end of each go round, provided that said requests be made at a time convenient to the clerk when the records are available. 29. The judge shall be provided with a scorecard listing contestant numbers for judged events. A score card will be used for the timed events listing, in order, the top five (5) places. These shall be signed by 7 the judge (judged events) or an arena committee delegate (timed events) at the conclusion of the event. Winners shall be announced at the conclusion of the class, or as soon as possible. 30. Every member show shall appoint an arena committee which shall be present at and responsible for the enforcement of the rules, and shall operate under the authority of the rules committee. All controversial matters shall be referred to the rules committee whose decision shall be final. 31. Each member show shall be required to furnish the point keepers of EKHA a record in the form of a point sheet provided by EKHA showing the top five (5) placings of each event according to the decision of the judges or arena committee, together with the names of the riders, owners of the horses and their saddle club, within thirty (30) days after the closing of the show. Failure to comply with this rule will result in the host club members losing points won in that show. (See Item 9, #3 & #4 & #5) 32. Each member show shall be required to send 10% of the total entry fees along with the $3.00 office charge per contestant to the State Treasurer. This report is to be completed and sent (including fees/monies owed) within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the show and to be signed by the recording secretary of the show. Failure to comply with this rule shall result in the host club members losing points won in that show. (Revised 07) 33. "Host Club" - For members belonging to more than one Saddle Club, the Saddle Club name submitted on the entry form will determine the Saddle Club for which they are riding under that day. 34. Any non-point classes must be held before or after the approved point show. 35. All clubs will be required to provide each contestant a payback slip for places 1 st – 4th for each class. The payback slips will provide the following information: date of show, class number, class name, placing, number of entries in the class, and the amount of payback. A template for payback slips will be included in the show packet sent out by the EKHA state secretary. (New 10) 36. Each rider must use their correct number as shown on the entry card. It is the responsibility of the rider to make sure the proper number is being clearly displayed. Riders showing with incorrect, missing, or multiple (conflicting) numbers visible shall result in a disqualification, will not be judged, and will not receive year-end award points for that class/event. (New 11) ITEM 1: SHOW BILLS 1. There shall be an approved show bill for every EKHA point show. The secretary of every member club sponsoring a point show will submit a proposed show bill to the State Secretary for approval at least 30 days prior to the date of show. (12) Phone number of responsible party for information A completed pre show summary form and a check to cover the cost of the electric timer (if needed and of publishing the show bill in the Shodeo News needs to be sent to the State Treasurer at the time the show bill is sent to the State Secretary. (At least thirty (30) days prior to the show.) ($10.00 per day timer fee - $10.00 per day publication fee) 3. The association secretary shall send a copy of approved show bills to EKHA news editor for printing in 8 the official publication. ITEM 2: JUDGING 1. Each club is responsible for selecting its own judge and arena committee for its show. 2. All judges and arena committee must understand thoroughly and enforce all rules adopted by EKHA. 3. A judge cannot judge members of his/her immediate family in non-racing events. Immediate family members includes: husband, wife, mother, father, grandparents, brothers, sisters, in-laws, children, Stepchildren and grandchildren. 4. No judge can judge a horse he/she owns or leases. 5. A judge shall be paid a fee by the host club. This fee will be agreed upon by the host club and the judge it has chosen. 6. A judge cannot judge a show if he/she is a member of the host club. 7. The host club shall provide an alternate judge or judges for not more than two (2) judged events per show. The host club may have the option of using its named judge or obtaining members of the local arena committee to act as judges for the racing events. The chairperson of the arena committee will be responsible for signing sheets for timed events, if judged by the local arena committee. 8. The judge shall mark five places on his/her score sheet. 9. A judge cannot compete in a show in which he/she is judging. 10. No judge shall judge more than two shows per season, but cannot judge the same club show twice in one season. (Revised 07) ITEM 3: TIMER 1. It is mandatory that an electric timer be used at EKHA approved shows. In case the timer becomes inoperative, two digital stopwatches to the 100th of a second, provided by EKHA, will be used to complete the show. 2. The host club is responsible for setting up, managing, dismantling and returning the timer to the carrier. 3. Each member club shall pay a fee set by the Board of Directors for the use of the electric timer at any show. The fee shall be paid when submitting show bill(s) for approval - 30 days in advance of the show. ($10.00 per day) 4. The stopwatches shall be used to back up the timer in all events. This will be the official time in case of timer malfunctions. 5. The carrier of the timer is responsible for seeing that the electric timer is present at all EKHA shows and, in the event of an emergency, the carrier of the timer may grant the use of the timer. 6. The Executive Board shall grant the use of the electric timer for open shows. The fee for the timer shall be set by the Board of Directors. ITEM 4: TIMING 1. All times will be recorded and selection of winners made from the recordings. 2. More than one person will read the timer at all times. 3. If five contestants are entered, five places must be made. In case of ties, etc. contestants may reride or 9 flip a coin. ITEM 5: ANNOUNCERS 1. The announcer shall give three calls per event. 2. The announcer shall give any judge's instructions to a class as relayed to him/her by the ring steward. 3. He/she shall announce all placings, names, horses, and saddle clubs. 4. He/she shall announce the time following each run. 5. An announcer cannot call a run qualified or disqualified until he/she receives a decision from the judge or arena committee. 6. The announcer shall call for the next event at the beginning of the current class. ITEM 6: PROTESTS 1. Any contestant questioning his/her announced time in any event must make a complaint at the announcement stand before the close of the following event. 2. Procedure on protests - a protest is to be placed with the local arena committee. If the difference cannot be resolved and the protester chooses, he/she may file a written complaint with the Rules Committee with a check or cash for the amount of $25.00. If the decision is for the protest, the money is returned. If the decision is against the protest, the money becomes the property of EKHA. ITEM 7: PENALTIES 1. Any act of discourtesy or disobedience to a judge, to an official of this association, to a member of a club, or to the arena committee, by an owner, an exhibitor, his/her agent, employee, rider, or close relative of such competitor or exhibitor shall be just cause to give the Rules Committee the right to debar same from showing at any member show for a period of time as it may determine the offense warrants. All member clubs shall be immediately notified of any such action taken by the Rules Committee. ITEM 8: STATE SHOW 1. Clubs wishing to host the State Show must submit their bids, in writing, to the State Secretary by July 1st. Bids shall contain the club's qualifications for holding the State Show, such as arena facilities, equipment, parking facilities, entry stand, camping facilities, electricity, and public address system. 2. The State Show will be held the weekend prior to Labor Day weekend of each year. 3. The State Show Committee will provide help to produce the State Show. 4. State Show entry donations shall be made through the individual saddle/riding club secretary and then forwarded to the State Show Secretary with one check no later than August 5 th. No post entries will be recognized. 5. After the entry deadline (August 5th), no changes will be allowed without a veterinarian certificate. With a written veterinarian certificate, a horse may be substituted for the horse on the entry form. 6. The same horse and rider unit that has qualified in member shows must be used in the State Show. To qualify for State Show, contestant and horse must have participated as a unit, (not necessarily placed), in three EKHA approved shows. If participation is questioned, horse and rider forms will be used for verification. 7. The EKHA will retain the $3.00 rider donation fee. (Revised 08) 8. The host club shall receive income from their concession stand and retains the $3.00 horse fee 10 donation. (Revised 08) 9. Class entry donations may be retained by the EKHA or may be used as payback. Use of class entry donations as payback is at the discretion of the EKHA officers and the State Show committee, and is to be determined at the January budget meeting. 10. The Finance Committee and State Show Committee will determine awards at the State Show. Awards are optional. 11. A qualified judge outside of the association will be hired for all judged events in the State Show. The Rules Committee and State Show Committee will govern timed events. 12. Fee for judging the State Show (judged events) shall be set by the State Show Committee and Finance Committee. 13. State Show Secretary will be appointed by the EKHA President and must be a member of an EKHA club. 14. The State Show Secretary shall: (1) (2) (3) (4) Post and collect all entries for the show. Select and assign numbers to all judged event contestants. Furnish a copy of contestants per class to the announcer. Furnish a copy of the winners in all events to the Secretary, Point Keepers and Shodeo News Editor. (5) Furnish a completed Horse & Rider form to the Head Point Keeper and the Treasurer. (6) Furnish a State Show Summary to the Treasurer, including, but not limited to, entry donation totals, horse & rider donation totals, payback totals (if applicable), and Super Horse monies/entries. 15. Points earned at the State Show will be counted as follows: 8 (1st), 6 (2nd), 4 (3rd), 2 (4th), 0 (5th). (New 04) 16. State Show Superhorse Award: (1) Nomination forms must be filled out and sent with State Show entries. A fee of $15.00 must be sent along with the form. No late nomination will be accepted. (Revised 10) (2) Once nomination forms have been sent in there will be no changes allowed without a veterinarian or Dr. certificate of injury. Then a horse may be substituted for the horse nominated or a rider in the same age group may be substituted for an injured rider. (3) Points earned at the EKHA State Show will be totaled to determine the Superhorse using the regular EKHA point system. (4) Horse and rider(s) must have competed in at least three (3) EKHA point shows. (5) Horse must have competed at least three times in each of at least three out of five categories. (6) Horse must compete and be entered in Category 1 or 2 and also 4 and 5 to be eligible to be EKHA Superhorse. (7) Horse must earn at least one point in a judged event and at least one point in a timed event to win Super Horse award. (8) Super Horse Award is self-funded. Only the monies collected will be used to purchase the award and/or a gift certificate. On events where more than one age group is offered, choose only ONE age group per event. 11 Category 1: Pleasure Category 2: Category 3: Category 4: Category 5: Choose at least one class: Youth Western Pleasure, Quarterbred Pleasure, Stockhorse Choose at least one class: English Pleasure, Jr. Pleasure Horse, Sr. Pleasure Horse Horsemanship, Jr. Reining, Sr. Reining Choose one age group per event: Cloverleaf, Flag Race, Western Jump Choose one age group per event: Keg Bending, Pole Bending, Leadback Race ITEM 9: POINT SYSTEM 1. Horse show point sheets will be furnished by the association to member clubs on which the club's horse show results will be entered. Three copies (one for each point keeper) of these records must be sent into the EKHA official point keepers for all point shows, within thirty (30) days after the show. (See Horse Show Rules & Regulations, #31). The point sheets shall be the sole basis upon which ratings will be computed and the score thus derived shall be final authority in determining the awards in each division. The point keepers will use every care to achieve accuracy in computing the ratings, but the committee nor the association will be liable for the failure of any member show to file the results of its show nor for errors or omissions in the marking thereof, nor responsible beyond the point of accuracy in computing the final ratings from the results submitted by the proper authorities of each show. 2. Point keepers will record horses and riders exactly as submitted by club secretary and exactly as names of horses and riders appear on the form. If point sheets are not legible, host club must do them over. 3. Completed entry forms for the first five placings need to be stapled or clipped to the point sheet (one per class) and sent to the Head Point Keeper within thirty (30) days after the show. All other completed entry forms need to be kept in class order and sent in at this time, also. Horse Show Point Sheets, Entry forms and score cards need to be kept by the point keepers for one year. 4. Host club must provide a complete list of horse and rider names (Horse & Rider Form on NCR) to the EKHA State Treasurer, Head Point Keeper and the State Show Secretary within thirty (30) days after the show. 5. Host club must provide a completed Show Summary report to the EKHA State Treasurer and remit fees/monies owed within thirty (30) days of the show. 6. Members of any club who has not sent in its points shall not receive an award of any kind until that club has sent its points in to the point keepers. 7. The point keepers will tabulate contestant's points and top winners will be awarded honors at a Year-End State Awards Banquet held at the end of the year for that purpose provided that the contestant and horse meet all other EKHA requirements. 8. Points will be counted as follows: 4 (1st), 3 (2nd), 2 (3rd), 1 (4th) and 0 (5th), with the exception of the State Show, which will count as follows: 8 (1st), 6 (2nd), 4 (3rd), 2 (4th), 0 (5th). Winners in all classes will use the same point system. 9. A greater number of fifth (5 th) place finishes will be used as criteria for a tiebreaker for individual class winners for Year-End awards. 10. An event must be held in five (5) approved EKHA shows, counting the State Show, during the year to have year-end awards given in that event. Four place awards can be given only in events that qualify. 11. A horse and rider must have competed in at least three EKHA point shows and met all other EKHA requirements in order to be eligible for year-end awards in any event. 12. Only points earned at approved member shows, including the State Show, conducted under the standard rules of the association will be included in the reckoning of ratings. No points will be 12 credited for points won at non-member shows even though such shows are conducted in accordance with association rules. 13. Points will ultimately follow the rider, not specifically the horse and rider. Only one placing will be awarded to a rider in each event for year-end awards. At the conclusion of the State Horse Show the point keepers will meet as a committee to tabulate all points recorded for the year and to select ratings and submit a list of winners to the State Secretary and the year-end awards committee chairperson. 14. Points won in team events, pair events, and/or relay races will not apply toward High Point Awards unless there is a tie between contestants. Only the contestants with tied points will have their tie broken by counting all team, pair, and/or relay points. 15. Relay, Pair Sack, and Two Barrel Pair Sack points will be counted on an individual basis and not as team points. 16. Rescue race, exchange race, and wheelbarrow race are the only true "team" events. Points will be awarded to the horse and rider as a unit in these races only. 17. In case of disablement or death of your horse, points may be transferred with veterinarian verification filed with the State Secretary. In case a horse is temporarily injured there will be no substitution of points. Points may be transferred only once during a calendar year. 18. If a contestant feels an error has been made in tabulating his/her points, he/she should contact the Head Point Keeper. If the question cannot be resolved it shall be referred to the Rules Committee. Hi Point Horse: An award will be given to the horse accumulating the most points in qualified events. Horse must meet all other EKHA requirements. 12. Hi Point Horse And Rider Unit: An award will be given for Hi Point Horse and Rider AS A UNIT One award for JR. - 18 & Under and One award for SR. - 19 & Over. Hi Point Horse And Rider Unit must meet all other EKHA requirements. 13. High Point Club: 13. High Point club: Points won by each club member will be tabulated and a certificate will be given at the annual banquet to the top four clubs. High Point clubs must meet all EKHA requirements. In all judged events, the clothing, tack, and horse must be clean, workmanlike, and neat. Tapadoros, spurs, and chaps are optional. Riders shall wear western hat, footwear, and attire with long OR short sleeves in the Western classes, or the appropriate English attire as described in Event 3, English Pleasure, Line #3 of the rules. In all Horsemanship, Pleasure, and Reining classes, no mechanical hackamores, tie downs, 15 running martingales, draw reins, choke ropes, or wire around a horse’s neck will be permitted. 3. Romals or split reins will be used. Reins should fall on hand held side. One finger between split reins is permitted except with junior horses (5 & under) where two hands may be used. (See #4). 4. Junior Horses may be ridden with two hands if using a smooth snaffle bit without shanks (O-ring, D-snaffle, or Egg Butt) with a ring no larger than 4” and no smaller than 2”. Optional loose curb (leather only) attached below the reins is permitted. A braided rawhide or leather bosal may be used with a minimum of a 2-finger space between the bosal and nose. Absolutely no metal under the jaw or on the noseband of the bosal is permitted. 5. Horses are to be reversed to the inside (away from the rail). Horses may be required to reverse at the walk or trot at the discretion of the judge, but shall not be asked to reverse at the lope. When a reverse is called for, the rider will reverse at whatever gait he/she is in at the time unless a stop is called for first. 6. The entire arena shall be used for all events, with the exception of Western Leadline - #4. At the judge's discretion, partial use of the arena is permitted for Western Leadline - #4. EVENT 1: HALTER CLASSES 1. Halter classes are optional classes for all breeds. 2. Age group for contestants will be "Open". 3. Horses to be judged on confirmation and suitability of animals per breed. 4. Halter to be held as the first four classes of a show. 5. Halter Horse age groups will be as follows: 1 – stallions and geldings 2 and under, 2 – stallions and geldings 3 and over, 3 – mares 2 and under, and 4 – mares 3 and over. Age of horse is to be as of January 1st of current year. (See Gen. Rules, #22, page 6.) EVENT 2: SHOWMANSHIP 1. This will be an optional class. 2. Age groups will be: 1 - 9, 10 - 13, 14 - 18 and Adult 19 & Over. (Revised 08) 3. Percentages will be 60% on showing horse, 30% on appearance of horse and 10% on exhibitor’s appearance and equipment. 4. Exhibitors may show in either English or Western attire. The equipment used by the exhibitor must be appropriate for the style and breed of horse being shown. In English option, English-type halter or bridle may be used. Whips are permitted in the English option for the appropriate breeds, i.e. Arabian, Saddlebred, etc. (New 07) 16 EVENT 3: ENGLISH PLEASURE 1. This is a required class. (New 06) 2. Class age division shall be Jr. - 18 & Under, Sr. - 19 & Over. (New 05) (Revised 08) 3. Riders are to wear breeches and hunt boots, or jodhpurs and jodhpur boots. Shirt or rat catcher shirt is to be worn. Tie, stock, choker, or turtleneck is required. Protective headgear or hunt cap for in-hand classes is mandatory. Non-rowel type spurs, crops, or bats are optional. A riding coat of either Hunt seat or Saddle style is to be worn. At the judge’s discretion coats may be optional due to heat. Judges must penalize contestants who do not conform. (Revised 07) 4. Tack: An English snaffle (no shank), Pelham (with two reins), kimberwick, and/or full bridle, all with cavesson noseband and plain leather brow bands must be used. Saddles must be of black and/or brown colors and of the hunting or forward seat type. Saddle pads to be of the classic style and composition. English breast plate and braiding of mane and tail are optional. Prohibited appointments: martingales, tie downs, and spurs with rowels, or draw reins. 5. Horses to be shown at a rhythmical, flat-footed, working walk; a long, low, ground covering trot, and a smooth, free flowing, relaxed canter. Horses should back easily and stand quietly. Judges may ask for an extended trot and/or a hand gallop (a definite lengthening of the stride with a noticeable difference in speed.) Over-collected, four-beat canter, and excessive speed to be penalized. Horses which move in an artificial frame and are over flexed and behind the bit should also be penalized. Horses should be serviceably sound with emphasis on free movement and manners. EVENT 4: WESTERN LEADLINE 1. This is a required class. 2. Rider to be five years of age and under as of January 1 st. 3. This is the only class that may, at the judge's discretion, use only part of the arena. 4. Equine to be led by a person 19 years of age or older, shown at a walk only. Contestants are to be walked in both directions. (reversed) (Revised 08) 5. Contestants may be asked to back their equine. 6. Parade equipment is barred. 7. Percentages shall count 50% for appearance of leader, rider, and equine and 50% for horsemanship. EVENT 5: WALK AND TROT 6 & UNDER 1. This is a required class. 2. Rider shall be six years of age and under as of January 1 st. 3. Horse to be shown at a walk and trot only, both directions of the arena. (reversed) 4. Contestants may be asked to back their horse. 5. Rider to be judged on ability to keep horse in designated gait and his/her handling and control of horse. 6. Percentages shall count 70% for horsemanship and 30% for suitability of horse to rider. 17 EVENT 6: HORSEMANSHIP 1. This is a required class 2. The required age groups shall be 1 - 9, 10 – 13, 14 – 18 and Adult 19 & Over. (Revised 08) 3. The judge will ask each rider to work individually. Individual works will be a combination of maneuvers that the judge feels are necessary to determine the horsemanship ability of the rider. This is a required class. 2. This is an "Open" age class. 3. The Senior Pleasure Horse is six (6) years and over. (See rule #22, page 6) 4. This class is to be judged the same as Jr. Pleasure Horse Event 10: #5, #6, #7, #8, and #9. 5. Percentages will be 70% on performance and suitability, 30% confirmation and manners. EVENT 12: JUNIOR KING & QUEEN 1. This is an optional class. 2. Age group shall be 18 years and under. Two separate classes are to be held - one for Queen, one for King. If Junior Queen is held, Junior King class is required the same day, and vice versa. (Revised 08) 3. Contestants will enter the arena, one at a time as their number is announced over public address system. Each contestant will do a Queen’s or King’s run (fast canter) and salute in a counterclockwise direction, 3/4 way around the arena, then line up in the center of arena. Following completion of final contestant’s run, the judge will direct class for competition to be judged as per Horsemanship. (Event #6) 4. Riders may be asked to dismount and mount horse. 5. Rail work may be required at option of the judge. 6. Percentages shall count 50% for horsemanship, 20% for wardrobe, 20% for appearance of horse and rider and 10% for equipment. EVENT 13: REINING 1. This is a required class. (New 04) 2. Class age division shall be Jr. – 18 & Under, Sr. - 19 & Over. (Revised 08) 3. In an approved reining class, any one of the approved EKHA Reining Patterns must be used. One of these patterns is to be selected by the judge of the class and used by all contestants in the class. 4. Each contestant will perform the required pattern individually and separately. Horse shall rein and handle easily, fluently, effortlessly, and with reasonable speed throughout the pattern. Any horse not following exact pattern will be disqualified. 20 EVENT 13: REINING 5. A judge may require any contestant to repeat his performance of any or all of the various parts of the pattern. 6. Only one hand may be used on the reins and hands must not be changed. Hand to be around reins, one finger between reins permitted. The only exception will be for Junior Horses. While horse is in motion, rider's hands shall be clear of horse and saddle. 7. Each horse will be judged on the neatness, dispatch, ease, calmness, and speed with which it performs the pattern. 9. (c) No wire curbs, regardless of how padded or covered, no chin strap narrower than one-half inch, no nosebands, and no tie downs will be permitted. 12. Judge will inspect equipment of entire class before class begins or individually after each pattern. Riders may be asked to change equipment before riding. 13. The arena or plot should be approximately 50 x 150 feet in size. Complete two large, fast circles to the right, and one small, slow circle to the right; change leads. 5. Begin a large, fast circle to the left. Do not close this circle, but run down the side past the center marker and do a right roll back at least 20 feet from the wall or marker. 6. Continue back around previous circle, run down opposite side of the arena past center marker and do a left roll back at least 20 feet from the wall or fence. 7. Continue back around previous circle. Do not close this circle, but run down the side past center marker and do a sliding stop. Back straight to the center of the arena or at least 10 feet. 8. Run past center of arena, do a sliding stop, no hesitation, back over slide tracks to center, hesitate. Make a pivot to the left to face left wall - hesitate. 5. Begin a right lead and make two circles to the right, the first small and slow, the second large and fast. Change leads at center of arena. 6. Make two circles to the left, first small and slow, the second large and fast. Change leads at the center of the arena. 7. Begin a large, fast circle to the right. Do not close this circle, but run straight down the side past the center, do a sliding stop. (Stop to be at least 20 feet from the wall or fence). 8. Starting in the center of arena make a large, fast circle to the right. 2. Draw the circle down to a small circle until you reach the center of the arena - stop. 3. Do a double spin to the inside of the small circle in the center of the arena - at the end of spins horse should be facing the left wall slight hesitation. 4. Begin on the left lead and make a large, fast circle. 5. Then a small circle, again drawing it down to the center of the arena - stop - no hesitation on these stops. 6. Do a double spin to the inside of the circle slight hesitation - horse to be facing left wall. 7. Begin on right lead and make a fast figure eight over the large circles. Close the eight and change leads. 8. Run to the far end of the arena and do a left roll back. 9. Run to opposite end of arena and do a right roll back. 10. Run back past center of the arena and do a sliding stop. Hesitate. 11. Back over slide tracks. 12. Finish. Walk to judge for inspection and dismissal. 13. The bridle may be dropped at the judge's discretion. 24 EVENT 14: WESTERN MATCHED PAIR 1. This is an optional class. 2. Pair may be from any club, age, and sex. 3. Horses to be judged and shown as a pleasure horse, parade equipment may not be used. Rules apply as in western pleasure classes. 4. Pair judged on the following percentages: 10% equipment, 10% wardrobe, 60% mounts and 20% horsemanship. EVENT 15: WALK AND TROT Jr. OR Sr. (New 05) 1. This is an optional class. 2. Age group for contestants will be Jr. 7 - 18 and Sr. 19 & Over. (Revised 09) 3. Horse to be shown at a walk and trot only, both directions of the arena. (reversed) 4. Contestants may be asked to back their horse. 5. Rider to be judged on ability to keep horse in designated gait and his/her handling and control of horse. 6. Rider may not enter a judged class that requires a lope on the same day as they enter Walk Trot Jr. or Sr. (New 05) Horse may be ridden by another contestant in any class and the rider may ride any other horse in any class that day; but the horse and rider combination entered in Walk Trot Jr. or Sr. may not enter any other judged class that requires a lope on that day. (New 06) 7. Percentages shall count 70% for horsemanship and 30% for suitability of horse to rider. EVENT 16: HUNTER HACK OPEN (NEW 06) 1. This is an optional class. 2. Age group for contestants will be “Open”. 3. The Hunter Hack horse should move in the same manner as a working hunter. The class will be judged on style over fences, even hunting pace, flat work, manners, and way of going. 4. Horses are first required to jump two (2) fences, 2’ to 2’ 6” in height. However, if the jumps are set in a line, they are recommended to be in increments of 12 feet, but no less than 36 feet apart. A ground line is recommended for each jump. 5. Horses to be considered for an award are then to be shown at a walk, trot, and canter; both ways of the ring with light contact. 6. At the discretion of the judge, contestants may be asked to hand gallop, pull-up, or back and stand quietly following the last fence. 7. Placing for the class shall be determined by allowing a minimum of 70% for individual fence work and a maximum of 30% for work on the flat. 25 EVENT 16: HUNTER HACK OPEN Cont. (NEW 06) 8. Faults over fences will be scored as in Working Hunter class. Horses eliminated in the over fence portion of the class shall be disqualified. Attire and acceptable equipment are the same as for English Pleasure (Page 16, Event #3, Item #3 and #4), and MUST include an approved SE-1-ASTM Helmet for headgear. EVENT 17: HUNT SEAT EQUITATION (NEW 10) 1. This is an optional class. 2. Age group for contestants will be Jr. 18 and Under and Sr. 19 & Over. 3. Standard attire and tack for contestants shall follow Page 16, Event 3, Item #3 and #4. 4. The judge shall ask each rider to work individually. Individual work shall be a combination of maneuvers that the judge feels are necessary to determine the equitation ability of the rider. Pattern should be completed in about 30 seconds. Selected riders may be required to work on the rail to determine final placing. Rail work shall consist of walk, trot, and canter. 5. Contestant will be judged on the ability to keep horse in designated gait, proper leads, and handling and control of horse. Contestant will be judged on his/her basic position in the saddle, hand position, leg position, seat position, and back position. 6. Percentage shall count 70% for horsemanship, 30% for conformation and suitability of horse to rider. EVENT 18: ROSIE CLYMER MEMORIAL RANCH HORSE PLEASURE (NEW 10) 1. This is an optional class. 2. Age group for contestants will be “Open”. 3. This is a class where the horse moves out faster. Horses will be judged on their ability to move at a working speed with a rider. 4. Horses will be shown at three gaits – walk, jog, and lope, in each direction of the arena. Horses will be asked to reverse away from the rail, to stop and back. The judge MUST ask for an extended jog and extended lope at least one direction of the arena. 5. A horse will be given credit for traveling with its head held in a normal position, ears alert, and moving at a natural speed for gaits requested. Credit will be given for making a smooth transition between the gaits, for keeping the correct lead, and for maintaining the gait requested until the judge requests a change. 6. A rider must show his/her horse with only one hand on the reins, unless the horse is 5 years old or younger and is being shown in a snaffle or hackamore (bosal). RULES & REGULATIONS FOR TIMED EVENTS 26 1. Electric timer must time all races with two persons reading the timer. 2. Stopwatches will be used to back up timers in all events. This will be the official time in case of timer malfunction. 3. If timer or stopwatch fails to function properly on a qualified ride the rider is allowed one reride. If on a qualified reride the timer fails to function properly the rider gets to ride until the timer functions properly or is disqualified. 4. No reruns will be given because of broken equipment. (tack) 5. All horses and riders will gather outside the gate prior to their class ready to enter arena for their event. 6. Rider shall show horse as his/her name is called. Only one horse or team shall be allowed in arena at a time. 7. Each rider and horse may enter once in a class except in youth classes. In youth timed events only, siblings and/or stepsiblings may enter and ride the same horse in the same event. 8. A contestant will be disqualified for breaking pattern. 9. A contestant that is led automatically places beneath a contestant that is not led. The person leading a contestant must be 19 years of age, or older. Only ONE horse is allowed in the arena at a time. NO leading from another horse is allowed due to safety concerns. (Revised 13) 10. Multi-age racing events will include the following age groups: (Must offer at least three (3) multi-age races per show). All races start and finish with arena gate closed. 12. In all races, horses may start from a running start inside the arena. Running through the gate will disqualify the contestant. 13. There shall be no practice runs on any event inside of arena after show has started. 14. All races can be optional on starting right or left-hand pattern as long as described pattern is ridden. Exceptions: Western Relay, Arena Race, Straight Barrel Race. 15. Whenever a barrel is used in a race event it shall be a 55 gallon barrel unless otherwise stated in a specific event. 16. Size of kegs and barrels must be of uniform height and size in diameter. If using buckets, handles must be removed for safety. 17. In case of a tie, the contestants may rerun one time or draw for remaining places. Contestants being led will not draw for placings. 18. In all races where a baton (14 x 1/2") or flag is used, when a contestant enters the arena he/she is under the rules and the baton or flag cannot be used as a bat. This means that the lead horse cannot be 27 whipped with the baton to get him/her started. This also applies to the other horses in the race. Use of baton or flag as a whip will result in disqualification. 19. The announcer cannot call a run qualified or disqualified until he/she receives a decision from the judge or arena committee. 20. In events with multiple contestants (Western Relay, Pair Sack, Two Barrel Pair Sack, Rescue Race, Exchange Race, Wheel Barrow Race, etc.) all riders and horses need not be from the same club. There shall be no age limit on contestants in these events unless stated otherwise on the host club's show bill. 21. EKHA will provide regulation flags, batons, poles with bases, and jump to member clubs to be carried with the timer. 22. Western footwear, long pants and a blouse or shirt with a collar shall be worn in all timed events. 23. Placement of pattern may be changed on all racing events for safety reasons. 24. Orange cones, (provided by EKHA), MAY be placed on the time line for a visual aid only. Cones have no effect on the pattern and no penalty is incurred if they are touched or knocked down. (New 03) EVENT 1: OPEN RACE 1. This is an "Open" age event. 2. Race to be selected from any point race in the EKHA rulebook. All ages compete together. Rules apply as per that event in the rulebook. 3. This is an optional event. (Revised 10) 4. DISQUALIFICATIONS: as per rules governing the race selected in the EKHA rulebook. EVENT 2: FLAG RACE LEFT OR RIGHT TURN 150' 2. Race will be run over a 300' course. A 55 gallon barrel will be set 150' from the starting line. 3. Flag will be placed in a gallon can at opposite end. Gallon can will be set at back edge of barrel for 6 & Under contestants and center of barrel for all other age contestants. 4. Flag will be of 6" by 8" material on an 18" long 1/2" diameter round dowel. START/FINISH 5. Rider will run around barrel, picking up flag, and return to timer line. 6. A 10-second penalty will be added for knocking over can holding the flag. 1. This is a multi-age event: 6 & Under, 7-9, 10-13, 14-18, Men & Women 19 – 40, Men & Women 41 – 60, and Men & Women 61 & Over (Revised 13) 7. DISQUALIFICATIONS: holding up or knocking over 55 gallon barrel, failure to carry flag across the finish line, using flag as a bat. 28 EVENT 3: CLOVERLEAF EVENT 4: KEG BENDING RACE KEGS AT POSITION MARKED “X” OR 1. This is a multi-age event: 6 & Under, 7-9, 10-13, 14-18, Men & Women 19 – 40, Men & Women 41 – 60, and Men & Women 61 & Over (Revised 13) 2. The course must be measured exactly. The front two barrels shall be 60' from the starting line. The distance between the two front barrels shall be 105' and the distance between the two front barrels and the back barrel shall be 120'. The barrels shall be at least 20' from the arena fence. If the course is too large for the available space it will be reduced equally to fit arena and still keep barrels 20' from the fence. 3. A 10-second penalty will be given for knocking over each barrel. 4. DISQUALIFICATIONS: touching the barrel with hand, breaking pattern. 1. This is a multi-age event: 6 & Under, 7-9, 10-13, 14-18, Men & Women 19 – 40, Men & Women 41 – 60, and Men & Women 61 & Over (Revised 13) 2. Keg Bending will be over a course of six kegs, 25' apart. The first keg will be 12' from the starting line. Time will start when horse crosses the starting line. Rider will pass first keg, either to the left or right, passing each subsequent keg on the opposite side, circling last keg, and returning to the starting line in the same weaving manner. 3. Kegs are to be round, five (5) gallon buckets with handles removed. 4. A 10-second penalty will be added for each keg knocked down. 5. DISQUALIFICATIONS: missing "in" or "out" weaving and horse jumping kegs. 29 EVENT 5: POLE BENDING RACE EVENT 6: KEY RACE LEFT OR RIGHT TURN 150' X X 1. 10' X X 5' This is a multi-age event: 6 & Under, 7-9, 10-13, 14-18, Men & Women 19 – 40, Men & Women 41 – 60, and Men & Women 61 & Over (Revised 13) START/FINISH 2. Only standard EKHA poles are to be used 14" rubber bases with 1 1/2" plastic pipe and 6' high. 3. Race is to weave between 6 poles; placed 21' apart with the first pole 21' from the starting line. Rider will run straight line to far pole making a right or left turn. Weave poles back to pole closest to timing line, make left or right turn to weave poles back to last pole. Turn left or right around last pole and run straight back to timing line. (Revised 10) 4. A 10-second penalty will be given for each pole knocked down. 5. The horse shall cross the timing line, enter the circle of the keyhole, turn around in either direction entirely within the circle of the keyhole, and return across the timing line. Judge's decision at keyhole shall be final. 3. DISQUALIFICATIONS: stepping on or over lines of keyhole, horse turning around in throat of keyhole rather than in 1. A 55 gallon barrel placed on the 150' turn line will be used for a marker. 3. Horse and rider must race to the other end of the arena, dismount behind the barrel and lead horse back. Rider must cross the finish line ahead of the horse with reins or lead rope in his/her hand. Length of reins or lead rope to be no longer than 7' and must be attached where reins are attached. 4. DISQUALIFICATIONS: failure to go around barrel, knocking over barrel, failure to cross line ahead of horse, failure to dismount behind the barrel, lead rope longer than 7', lead rope not attached 31 where reins are attached. Large burlap sack tightly filled with hay is placed on the 150' turn line at opposite end of arena. 3. Contestant must go around sack, drop or throw rope around sack and drag back across line. Rope must be a standard lariat rope at least 20'. Rope must be dallied to the horn. After dallying rope, sack must be at the end of remaining length of rope. Sack must cross line. Only two loops may be used. 4. DISQUALIFICATIONS: failure to go around sack, failure to return sack across finish line, rope coming off saddle horn, 2. A number of kegs or tires, one less than the number of contestants, are set in a circle. Contestants then ride single file around a larger circle to be 80' across. When the music stops, rider gets off outside larger circle and leads horse to kegs or tires, sits on kegs or stands with both feet in tire. He/she must keep hold of reins and reins shall be no longer than 7'. A keg or tire is removed each time music stops and one rider is eliminated. When there are only two contestants remaining, one keg or tire is left in the circle and first rider to sit on keg or stand in tire wins. 3. DISQUALIFICATIONS: reins over 7', not staying or dismounting outside of large 32 circle, no keg or tire to sit on or stand in. EVENT 11: STRAIGHT BARREL RACE breaking pattern. Three 55 gallon barrels are set in a row. It shall measure 37' from starting line to first barrel and 50' between next two barrels. 3. Rider will circle barrels to the left going down, circling end barrel to the left, then circling barrels to the right on return trip. 4. Saddles and blankets are placed 150' from starting line. Contestants ride their horses bareback to saddle and blankets, dismount, saddle their horses, mount and race back across the finish line. A bucket full of water is placed on a 55 gallon barrel 150' from the starting line and an empty pint jar is placed on a barrel 15' from starting line. 3. Contestant rides to end of course, carrying a cup. He/she shall fill cup from bucket, return to second barrel and pour water into pint jar. He/she will continue to ride back and forth circling each barrel until pint jar is filled to overflowing then crosses finish. He/she does not have to circle the barrel after jar is filled. Time limit is two minutes. 4. DISQUALIFICATIONS: failure to fill jar to overflowing, dropping cup, knocking over either barrel, failure to complete the task in two minutes, turning the barrels in different directions. 1. Event is to be divided Jr. - 18 & under, Sr. - 19 & over. (Revised 08) 2. Race is to be run over a 300' course. A 55gallon barrel with both ends removed is placed on its side 150' from starting line. Contestant rides down to barrel, dismounts, crawls through the barrel, then remounts horse and races back across the finish line. The reins are not to be longer than 7' and horse must go around the barrel. 3. A pole bending pole is set on turning line, (150' from timer line), and another pole bending pole is set 60' toward starting line, but in line with the first stake (pole). Contestant is mounted on starting line, races to turning line, makes a left or right turn around pole bending stake, then goes back to pole bending stake nearest timer line, make a turn in opposite direction from first turn, back to pole on turning line and turn opposite of turn at timing line and race back to timing line. If contestant makes a left turn first, next is a right turn, finishing with a left turn. (Making a figure 8) 3. DISQUALIFICATIONS: breaking pattern, touching or knocking over poles, failure to make an "8". EVENT 18: WESTERN JUMPING 1. Event is to be divided Jr. - 18 & under, Sr. - 19 & over. (Revised 08) 2. A plastic pole 15' in length and 1 - 1/2" in diameter is set on a stand a minimum of 12" and maximum of 18" off ground and placed 60' from starting line. Stands are to be placed at the end of the jump pole. Three pole bending poles, first to be placed on the turning line with the others set 21' apart. Contestant races to jump, jumps pole, and weaves poles in either direction up and back and then jumps pole and crosses finish line. 3. A 55gallon barrel, placed 150' from the staring line, will be used for a marker. 3. One contestant shall race from starting line, picking up other contestant positioned behind the barrel, and race back to finish line. Contestant being picked up must make contact behind front of the barrel and be astride behind the saddle before crossing the finish line. 1. This is an "Open" age event. This event is recognized as a "team" event. Points follow the "team" and not the individual. 4. Judge or member of arena committee shall be stationed at marker line to see if the contestant being picked up makes contact behind the front of barrel. 2. Race will be run over a 300' course. A barrel is placed 150' from starting line. One contestant rides to the barrel. He/she must dismount behind front of barrel and second rider mounts before horse passes front of barrel. Time starts when first rider leaves starting line and stops when second rider passes through the starting line. 5. Contestant rides to the partner who is standing beside the wheelbarrow at the turn line (150'). Contestant dismounts and pushes wheelbarrow with the partner in it across the finish line. Partner in wheelbarrow leads horse. Wheelbarrow must cross finish line first. 3. DISQUALIFICATIONS: losing horse, wheelbarrow not crossing finish line first, partner in wheelbarrow not leading horse. EVENT 22: PAIR SACK RACE 1. This is an "Open" age event. 2. Race to be run over a 300' course. A 55 gallon barrel is placed on the turn line 150' from starting line. Two riders holding a burlap sack race to opposite end of arena, both turn barrel, and back to starting line. 3. DISQUALIFICATIONS: knocking barrel over, either contestant losing hold of sack before crossing finish line, failure to both go around barrel. START/FINISH 1. This is an "Open" age event. 2. Race to be run over a 300' course with barrels set 30' apart. Two 55 gallon barrels are to be placed 30' apart on the turn line 150' from starting line. Two riders holding burlap sack, both riders race around outside of barrels, back to starting line. 3. DISQUALIFICATIONS: knocking over a barrel, either contestant losing hold of the sack before crossing finish line, failure of both riders to run around barrels. EVENT 24: WESTERN RELAY RACE 2. Race to be run counter clockwise around four barrels. Barrels number one and four are to be placed 2' from starting line. Barrels number two and three are placed on the 150' line. All barrels are to be 30' from fence. Baton is to be 14" long, not less than 1" nor more than 2" in diameter. 3. Four riders and horses per team. First rider will start between third and fourth barrels, race around arena, passing baton between third and fourth barrels, and so on with each rider until the race is finished. All batons must be passed between 3rd and 4th barrel. If baton is dropped, passer must dismount, pick up baton, remount, and pass to the original receiver. If a barrel is knocked over, that contestant must dismount, and reset barrel before passing the baton for team to qualify. No one but team members may hold horses. Run is completed when last rider crosses finish line and no team member can recross timer line for any reason. 4. DISQUALIFICATIONS: Running the wrong way, not passing baton between 3rd and 4th barrels, recrossing the timer line, hitting horse with baton, not picking up baton or resetting knocked over barrel.
