Job Family and Level: Administrative, Professional & Managerial Level 3 Contract Status: Permanent Hours of Work: Full-Time Location: Medical School, QMC Reporting to: Kirstie Coolin (TBC) Purpose of the New Role: The E-Learning and Media Officer will support learning technologists within the Health E-Learning and Media (HELM) Team in the delivery of all modules hosted on the Moodle VLE platform in the School of Health Sciences in line with the E-Learning Strategy, School Quality strategies and the Moodle Everywhere programme. The role holder will work closely with the E-Learning and Project Development Officer to implement support/training plans and to provide administrative support to ensure students and staff have appropriate access to the e-learning systems and materials they require on our systems (Moodle, Rogo, Turnitin, Pebblepad). The role will be ‘front-facing’ as the role holder will work closely with students and staff to support and also to ascertain requirements to feed back to the Learning Technologists. This will also involve providing first-line support for any E-Learning queries and in particular, coordinating the HELM ‘help account’. In addition the role holder will support the implementation of, and maintain, a new media repository to support the team and School staff in accessing and discovering rich-media materials that can be used in their courses. The role holder will support and disseminate copyright information to staff and students within the School and will provide day to day advice with the support of HELM Team members. Providing E-Learning Support (VLE, e-assessment system, Turnitin, PebblePad, Curriculum Mapping), maintaining Moodle module content (e.g. core course documents and handouts), ascertaining staff requirements, liaising with Learning Technologists to share and disseminate information. Media repository - working with team members to identify and implement the most suitable solution; populating and maintaining this resource. Providing advice and guidance on copyright for staff and students in using resources for teaching and learning. Staff and Student support and training; providing front-facing support for the HELM team and answering/investigating queries. Working with the HELM manager to manage the team’s intranet pages, including documentation of systems and processes related to e-learning. Keeping track of projects as they arise and liaising with the E-Learning and Project Development Officer to support maintenance of the HELM project list. Knowledge of a virtual learning environment such as Moodle Knowledge of E-Learning Proven ability to build good working relationships across teams and departments. Demonstrable ability to work accurately under pressure and to meet tight deadlines. Experience of contributing to policy or best practice guidance for using different modalities of e-learning Experience in managing own workload and developing efficient processes. Experience in delivering training, either one-to-one or to groups. Experience in developing materials for training. Sound understanding of the relevant professional, legal and regulatory requirements of own field of work. Awareness of accessibility and usability issues and of any legal restrictions placed upon electronic publishing and academic use of the Web Higher Level media or learning-related qualification e- Knowledge of E-Learning pedagogy Ability to use HTML/web development skills Ability to work with academics to produce online materials for Moodle or similar learning environment Knowledge of a graphic application such as Photoshop Knowledge of copyright and data protection legislation. Experience with a media repository Experience in working with a Higher Education context or within education for healthcare. Decision Making i) taken independently by the role holder Day to day support and advice where appropriate. Supporting and maintaining media repository. Development of documentation. General maintenance of Moodle modules. ii) taken in collaboration with others Maintenance of the HELM project list in collaboration with the E-Learning and Project Development Officer. Training and support undertaken with the team where appropriate. Decisions on arising issues (e.g. copyright decisions) in conjunction with colleagues. iii) referred to the appropriate line manager (Kirstie Coolin (TBC)) by the role holder Changes to procedures or processes where they affect HELM; structure and final decisions on the Media repository; new projects; overall staff and student training plans; issues arising. Training needs for keeping abreast of current legislations, for instance copyright in the HE context. Additional Information The E-Learning and Media Officer is a key role within the HELM team. The HELM team provides an important service within the School developing and delivering high-quality and high-volume e-learning provision to all staff and students. HELM work with a broad range of teams across the School to ensure a smooth experience for students, and support staff in creating and delivering their online content. The HELM team deliver a diverse set of projects. The role holder has the opportunity to be involved in a range of activities and to participate in whole team projects, such as a MOOC.
