ADDITION

math flash cards/facts with your child at home.

It is so important that they become fluent.

Handwriting:

Handwriting matters on each and every page.

Reading Words

: Please see the list attached inside of the folder. Please read and study these words with your child this week. They will be asked to read them in class on Friday as part of their reading grade. These words come directly from our literacy series to follow the phonics rule or skill of the week. We understand that these words may not be difficult or challenging for every child. We are looking for consistency across writing, spelling and reading which is when we know that the rule or skill is mastered.

Book It Incentive Reading Program:

Inside this folder, you will find a parent letter along with monthly tracking sheets. Starting in this month, we are asking that each child read 10 books independently or to an adult each month. If they are able to reach this goal, they will earn a free pizza coupon from Pizza Hut each month. A the end of each month, please cut off and turn in your tracking sheet so we can track it here at school and give them their reward. We hope this will motivate the children to be reading at home, yet give you the flexibility to do it when it fits into your lives. It starts this week, so start reading!

Have a great week,

The first grade team
