Housed in one of Australia’s most prominent national heritage listed buildings, the Museum of Australian
Democracy at Old Parliament House was the first museum in Australia dedicated to telling the story of the
journey of our democracy. It seeks to provide a range of innovative exhibitions, tours, interpretation,
education programs and public activities that will inspire and challenge visitors to explore democracy from
its ancient roots to the present day and possible futures.
The Museum of Australian Democracy encourages applications from the diverse Australian community

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD) at Old Parliament House is looking for an experienced
cultural heritage professional for the role of Assistant Manager, Heritage. The role is integral to the
operations of MoAD and plays a key role in managing the heritage values of the building and its
collections.
Old Parliament House is on the Commonwealth and National Heritage lists and is protected under the
Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
DUTIES
1. Manage and undertake investigations and studies to provide information and develop policy advice
on heritage, conservation and collection management issues.
2. Work with other areas of the museum to implement the Heritage Management Plan and Collection
Management Policy.
3. Develop, implement and supervise work programs, provide advice on and/or carry out research
into the management of the museum collections and loan programs.
4. Develop, implement and supervise work programs, provide advice on and/or carry out research
into the conservation of the place and collections.
5. Prepare briefs, contracts, correspondence and approvals documentation as it relates to heritage,
conservation and collection management at the museum.
6. Undertake reporting, contract and financial management tasks such as development and
management of budgets and finances.
7. Supervise staff and contractors engaged for collection and building conservation work.
SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Proven track record in developing and implementing conservation, collection and heritage
management strategies, activities and projects.
2. Demonstrated understanding of collection management sector standards and the Commonwealth
heritage system under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
3. Proven analytical, conceptual and administrative skills, such as reporting, contract and financial
management.
4. High level oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to
represent the organisation and develop productive working relationships with stakeholders.
5. Demonstrated initiative, self-motivation and experience working as a team leader and team
member on complex tasks.
