The Bath Course in Enhancing Academic Practice
Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (AP(E)L)/exemption claim form
This form gives you the opportunity to make the Academic Staff Development team,
responsible for the Bath Course in Enhancing Academic Practice, aware of any prior
learning or appropriate experience that you have in teaching and learning. It may be
that some of your prior learning exempts you from section(s) of the course.
If you clearly have a case, your claim will be discussed with the Associate Dean
(learning and teaching) of your Department or School. If you are likely to be
exempted from any section of the Bath Course in Enhancing Academic Practice, you
may be contacted to provide further information. Please note that decisions can only
be made on the basis of evidence, such as certificates, original award documents or
other evidence that you have used as part of your appropriate experience1. Claims
must be submitted within 3 months of the Course Induction event.

1. If you have a Certificate indicating that you are an Associate of the HE
Academy, go to part B (page 3).
2. If you have a Certificate indicating that you are a Fellow of the HE Academy,
go to part C (page 3).
3. If you have completed equivalent course/programme/units/modules at
another HEI, go to parts D(i) and D(ii) (page 4 & 5)
4. If you have between 3-5 years (or fte equivalence) of recent relevant teaching
experience in HE, go to part E (page 6).
5. If you have more than 5 years (or fte equivalence) of recent relevant teaching
experience in HE, go to part F (page 6).
