Phase 1: Analyse
Program: Construct Pitched roofs and eaves
Summary: This cluster covers the required knowledge to



select, set out, construct and erect pitched roofs to accommodate roof coverings for waterproofing purposes. It includes scotch valley
gable, hip and valley, broken hip and valley and combinations thereof.
It includes prepare, set out and construct eaves, including the cutting and fixing of fascias and barges to provide a finish between the
wall and the roof. It includes boxed eaves and the finish to gable ends and
to plan, prepare, set out, construct and erect ceiling frames to accommodate ceiling joists, hanging beams, strutting beams and
composite beams. It includes selection of members and setting out of the ceiling frame in conjunction with the roof members.

Context:
Learners:
(This cluster covers the requirements of the following UOC:


CPCCCA3007B Construct Pitched Roofs;
CPCCCA3008B Construct Eaves
CPCCCA3005A Construct ceiling frames
This training will be delivered in many ways including but not limited to:
In class, In workshop, Onsite, Flexibly, distance.


15 – 25 generally the majority straight out of school with
minimal exposure to the building industry
Students could be, looking to get a job, employed and
working in the industry while doing training or have been
working in the industry for years and want to get
qualifications (gap training)

Past experiences and existing knowledge/ skills will be
minimal

Prior learning may come from TVET at School or working
with family or their boss on site.

Motivation to complete required activities is generally low,
punctuality is a problem. Also a low level of literacy and
numeracy skills.

All have mobile phones, computers, internet access and
have basic computer skills. Knowledge of word processing
and spreadsheets is low.

You will be required to construct an eave to comply with
the plans and specifications provided by the class
facilitator. You will be required to calculate and develop
the length of the members required and construct the
eave in the correct sequence without endangering
yourself, other and equipment. This activity must be
conducted under the supervision of your class facilitator
at a time dictated by them.

Implementation
This cluster will be setup on the Carpentry Moodle 2 Site and used by all teachers, wishing to use Moodle, in the Carpentry facility for delivery of these UOC.
Teachers will be able to choose how they deliver the information however for the first time we will be delivering the same information.
Review
The cluster on Moodle will have a forum and a Feedback section for the students and another hidden forum for teachers to suggest changes that we need
to make. Student’s results and completion rates will also be compared with students who are not using the Moodle based package to see what differences
there are. An annual meeting with the teachers to review the whole Moodle course.
