Inserting Quotes into Sentences

The following sentences need to be edited so that they contain textual evidence or quotes.

They should be manipulated or rearranged to sound more sophisticated and textual evidence should be integrated into them.

Example:

Shakespeare demonstrates that good characters such as Macduff and Malcolm will always triumph over evil characters such as Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.

Shakespeare demonstrates that characters who display "mercy" and "courage" such as Macduff and Malcolm will always triumph over "false, deceitful" and "malicious" characters such as the

"tyrant bloody-sceptered" Macbeth and his fiend-like wife” Lady Macbeth.

1. At the beginning of the play Macbeth is loyal and has morals but by the end of the play he is evil and will stop at nothing to maintain power.

2. Through characters such as Macbeth and Lady Macbeth Shakespeare demonstrates that deception is an undeniable part of society, however, he makes clear that honesty and truthfulness are characteristics that he values in people.

3. Lady Macbeth begins the play as a more masculine character then Macbeth but by the end of the play she displays more feminine characteristics as she descends into madness.

4. Throughout Macbeth the symbol of sleep is often used by Shakespeare to symbolize death and relates strongly to both guilt and betrayal for several characters.

5. Through characters such as Macduff and Malcolm Shakespeare is able to demonstrate what he considers to be the kingly qualities needed to run a country.

6. Through characters such as Lady Macbeth and Macbeth Shakespeare demonstrates that unchecked ambition to overthrow authority can only lead to destruction.

7. Throughout the play it becomes clear that Shakespeare is using the symbol of blood to represent the guilt Macbeth and Lady Macbeth experience as they feel their crimes have stained them in a way they cannot wash clean.
