FACTSHEET: WIND POWER USE BY PROCTER & GAMBLE FABRIC & HOME CARE WHY IS P&G CHOOSING TO USE WIND POWER? At P&G we see sustainability as an important component to improve consumers’ lives and to create value for shareholders. We have set ambitious 2020 Corporate Sustainability goals, including aggressive targets on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing our use of renewable energy. As part of our journey to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions and increase renewable energy, P&G Fabric & Home Care has partnered with EDF Renewable Energy (EDF RE) to create a project that will bring new renewable energy capacity on-line. P&G Fabric & Home Care plays a key part in allowing P&G to achieve its corporate sustainability goals. The wind farm we announced today will make a significant contribution to our renewable energy goals. WHY IS P&G SIGNING THE AMERICAN BUSINESS ACT ON CLIMATE PLEDGE? On July 27th 2015 the White House launched the American Business Act on Climate Change Pledge, with 13 companies signing up and pledging commitments to reducing climate change. On October 19th 2015 P&G became a signatory of the pledge, reflecting the Company’s belief that everyone has a role to play in reducing GHG emissions. We are seeing business take a leading role in tackling climate change, by taking voluntary actions that will reduce emissions while also being good for business. Governments will clearly also play a critical role, and we need our policy makers to implement smart policy that encourages innovation, provides clarity and certainty for business, and achieves needed reductions in a way that balances the need for adequate, secure and diverse energy supplies. By signing the pledge, P&G is demonstrating our commitment to reduce GHG emissions and hopefully we will inspire others to do the same. ARE THE PLEDGE AND THE WIND FARM LINKED? As part of the Pledge, P&G agreed to achieve 30% renewable energy to power its plants globally. The wind farm P&G Fabric & Home Care announced today will make a significant contribution to achieving this renewable energy goal. HOW WILL THE USE OF WIND POWER IMPACT P&G PRODUCTS? Power generated from the wind farm will be used in the manufacture of all North American, P&G produced products across Fabric & Home Care. This includes Tide, Gain, Downy, Dawn, Cascade, Febreze, Mr. Clean The partnership will also impact some brands and forms available in Latin America, such as Gain, Tide, and Dawn. Utilising wind power will allow us to provide our consumers with their favorite, high performing brands while reducing our environmental footprint. HOW SUSTAINABLE IS TIDE? Tide has been taking steps to continually improve its sustainability credentials for years, including: Since 2008, Tide has used 40% less water per dose and less plastic per bottle. Since 2010, production of Tide has produced 50% less waste and 17% less water per unit of production. We’ve also eliminated 3 million truck miles per year by consolidating distribution centers In the US, Tide bottles contain 25% recycled content, with a special 3-layer bottle used. 1 In fact, for the past 20+ years we’ve made new Tide bottles from old – having helped make color recycling logistically feasible in North America. We’re constantly striving to ensure Tide performs better in cold water. Tide Coldwater can actually save 395 pounds of CO2 per household a year. Tide has a positive social impact too: since 2005 we’ve cleaned over 60,000 loads of laundry at 40+ disasters. We’re continuing to innovate, and last year announced that Tide Coldwater is turning corn leaves – which would previously have been waste – into a clean washing ingredient in partnership with DuPont Chemicals. HOW SUSTAINABLE IS DAWN? Dawn also has a long history of commitment to sustainability, including: Containing biodegradable surfactants including some naturally derived surfactants. On average, Dawn bottles contain 25% or more post-consumer recycled (PCR) material…and has for more than 20 years. Dawn contains no animal ingredients, is gluten free, phosphate free, ammonia free, bleach free, nontoxic, septic safe, chlorine and formaldehyde free and free of MEA and DEA. Dawn also partners will How2Recycle, an organization whose mission is to increase recycling by making it clearer and simpler for consumers Dawn has an ongoing commitment to social sustainability through our efforts to save wildlife, through partnerships with International Bird Rescue and The Marine Mammal Center. Looking towards the future, our Kansas City plant is on track to become a production site that generates Zero Manufacturing Waste to Landfill.
