Program Description
Refining the Single-Isocenter Technique to Benefit Surgeons & Patients”. John Fiveash,
MD, and Evan Thomas, MD, PhD, from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, describe
a technique of treating brain metastasis using a single isocenter on a modern linac at UAB.
Dr. Fiveash will describe the evolution of SRS for treating multiple metastases: its role in 21st
century neuro-oncology and how it benefits surgeons and patients. Dr. Thomas will go into
details of their technique, and describe how it compares to conventional radiosurgery.

Medical Physicists, Radiation Oncologists, Medical Dosimetrists, Oncology professionals
Educational Objectives
After taking part in this educational activity, participants should be better able to:
1) Understand the evolving role of radiosurgery in the treatment of more than four brain
metastases.
2) Describe the risks and benefits of whole brain radiation therapy.
3) Compare and contrast various delivery methods of radiosurgery for multiple targets.
4) Describe optimal treatment planning strategies for single isocenter VMAT radiosurgery.
5) List the patient and programmatic benefits of frameless flattening-filter free radiosurgery

There are no fees for participating in this CME activity. To receive credit during the period

activity evaluation form, including the certificate information section.
To obtain a certificate, participants must receive a score of 70% or better on the post-test. The
post-test can be accessed at the end of the activity.
