Characterised by brave, imaginative programming and amply matched by dynamic and engaging
performances, Trio Dali was born out of friendship and a strong passion for chamber music.
Formed in 2006 Trio Dali fast attracted attention by winning successive major international
competition prizes in Osaka, Japan (First Prize and Gold Medal); Frankfurt, Germany (First Prize);
New York, US (Second Prize); Vienna, Austria (Audience Prize, Special Prize and Third Prize). Trio Dali
was awarded the prestigious Chamber Music Award by the Philharmonia Orchestra, ensuring the
trio is much sought after. Press comment has compared Trio Dali to legendary groups such as the
Beaux Arts Trio and the Stern/Istomin/Rose Trio.
The trio’s name is a reference to the precious Asiatic marble from the Chinese city of Dali, a material
that is fastidiously carved to produce works of jewellery and art. This thoughtful and creative
shaping, the hallmark of Dali’s marble, reflects the trio’s essential musical values.
Following studies with the Artemis Quartet, Augustin Dumay, Menahem Pressler (The Queen
Elisabeth Music Chapel, Brussels) and at the Universität der Künste Berlin, Trio Dali appeared in
concerts across Europe, the USA, Australia and Asia in concert halls such as the Berlin Philharmonie;
Concertgebouw, Amsterdam; Southbank Centre, London; Tsuda Hall, Tokyo; Kaufman Concert Hall,
New York; Alte Oper, Frankfurt; Musée du Louvre and Salle Pleyel, Paris; BOZAR and Flagey Hall,
Brussels; Great Guild Hall, Riga; Izumi Hall, Osaka and Garnier Opera, Monaco.
Trio Dali has played at international festivals including Verbier; Monaco; Aix-en-Provence;
Montpellier; La Folle Journée, Nantes; La Roque d’Anthéron; Saintes; Colmar, Wallonie; Stavelot;
Menton; Vexin and Riga. Upcoming concerts include return visits to the Musée du Louvre, Musée
d'Orsay and a second tour of Australia for Musica Viva.
Trio Dali enjoys working with other artists and ensembles or in different pairings within the trio.
Collaborations have included concerts with eminent musicians such as Maria João Pires, Augustin
Dumay, Leif Ove Andsnes, Daniel Hope, Lawrence Power, Michel Portal, Jiang Wang, José van Dam,
Thierry Escaich, Gábor Takács and György Kurtág. The trio actively seeks cross art collaborations and
mixes science, art and comedy into its programmes. Other guest artists include Prof. Brian Cox and

Rainer Hersch. The trio has worked with orchestras such as the Philharmonia Orchestra, Luxembourg
Philharmonic, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Besançon Orchestra and Sinfonia Varsovia.
Trio Dali's first two recordings were released on Fuga Libera-Outhere (Harmonia Mundi) to critical
acclaim. The first in 2009, dedicated to Ravel, received a Diapason d'Or, a Choc of the Month and of
the Year 2009 in Classica, France Inter Choice, Key Resmusica, ‘Disco esceptionnal’ in Scherzo, and
was disc of the month in BBC Music Magazine. In 2011 the trio's Schubert CD was awarded Editor’s
Choice in Gramophone Magazine, a Crescendo Joker, Pizzicato Supersonic Award, 5 stars in Diapason
Magazine, 4 stars in Classica, 5 stars in Das Ensemble and was recommended as 'a Choice' by France
Musique. The trio's new recording of Mendelssohn and Bach was released in 2015 by Zig-Zag
Territoires (Outhere) and has received a Choc from Classica and a 5 star review in Diapason. The
ensemble regularly appears on France Musique, France Inter, Radio Classique, RTBF, NHK, Mezzo,
ARTE, Klassik 3, BBC Radio 3 and Espace 2.
Trio Dali is artist in residence at the Singer-Polignac Foundation in Paris. From 2008-2010 the trio
held a Leverhulme Trust Fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music.
Jack Liebeck plays the Ex-Wilhelmj violin by J.B. Guadagnini (1785) and Christian-Pierre La Marca
performs on an 1856 cello by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume.
