The United States Congress and Senate has made Mar 30, 2015 Viet Nam Veterans Day. A very long time coming. Our chapter is proud to have four members of the Viet Nam War. Terry Grove, Paul Parish, Michael Crow and David Frederick. Welcome Home. Let’s don’t forget the Viet Nam War era veterans, Gulf War vets, WWI, WWII, Korea and our Revolutionary War ancestors. Happy Birthday “Little Meadows Chapter” Sons of the American Revolution. We are celebrating the fifteenth birthday as Little Meadows Chapter. Approved July 14, 2000. Paul Shockey – President, Steven Shockey – Vice President, Kenneth Hardesty – Secretary/Treasurer, Board Members – Luther Parrack , Robert Rodeheaver, and Gregory Shockey. Our new officers for 2015 are Ansel Shircliffe, President, Terry Grove – Vice President, Thomas Carr – Secretary, David Beard – Treasurer, Luther Parrack – Chaplain, Flag Chairman – Paul Parish and Mike Crow. Sergeant at Arms – David Frederick. Special Guests for our June 6 meeting. It is an honor to have Jim Engler, 2015/16 President of Maryland’s Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. William Smithson 1st Vice President with his wife and 2nd Vice President Donald Deering in attendance. Mr. Deering is our Ex Officio Member assigned to our chapter. It is also my pleasure to have Bob Bantz as guest speaker for our June 6 meeting. Bob will be speaking on the travels of George Washington from Fort Cumberland (Allegany County) to “Little Meadows” (Garrett County) and Braddock’s Road. Bob is a mersber of the Allegany Genealogy Society and teacher of local history. Mr. Crossland and Sue Crossland has been attended our meeting. The Crosslands are owner’s of Little Meadows property and spends time at the Historic Stone House (circa 1816) on the Little Meadows property. Michael Wotring and Seth Bernard who are in the application stages. JROTC award winner Quade Raley, his Commander, Lt. Randy Merritt with his wife, and Mr. and Mrs. Raley are in attendance. Chapter Award We are very happy to present the Chapter Distinguished Service Award Certificate and medal to Terry R. Grove. Terry has been our “President” for the last three years and has done an outstanding job. A Viet Nam certificate and medal was presented to David Frederick for his service in Viet Nam. Other Viet Nam veterans, Paul Parish, Terry Grove and Mike Crow also received this award at our winter meeting in 2014. Student Citizenship and JROTC Awards. For the first time a Navy Sea Cadet Award will be presented to Sea Cadet from Allegany County. Cadet Petty Officer 2 Quade Raley. (Ansel Shircliffe – President presented the award). Award for JROTC (Southern) is Cadet Sergeant Garrett Owens held at Harrington Manor State Park on May 16, 1:00 pm. (Tom Carr-Secretary and Dave Beard - Treasurer presented the award). Award for JROTC (Northern) is Cadet 1st Lt. Connor Spiker held May 8, 6:00 pm at the Wisp Resort. (Tom Carr –Secretary and Dave Beard Treasurer) both presented the award). Citizenship Award (Southern HS) is Clay L.Todd held May 28, 7:00 pm Southern cafeteria.(David Beard Treasurer) will present the award) Citizenship Award (Northern HS) is Adriana Fratz held May 19, 1:30 pm at (Northern HS) gymnasium. (David Beard – Treasurer will present the award). Chapter Obituaries Jon R. Daddysman Sr. passed away December 2014, Kenneth Hardesty passed away Jan 2015, and Rosetta Rodeheaver the wife of Robert Rodeheaver passed away Mar 28, 2015. They will be missed and they will be in our thoughts and prayers. Little Meadows is celebrating its fifteenth year as a Maryland SAR Chapter. July 14, 2000. Little Meadows will be establishing a new “Newsletter Journal” that will be distributed on a quarterly basis. Thomas Carr – Secretary will be editor.
