Decisions Made (and primary rationale)
The charge of the Community Tennis Association Committee is to advise and support staff and volunteers at all
levels in creating, developing and strengthening a nationwide network of self-sufficient CTAs to increase tennis
participation at the local level.
Chair Report-Paula Hale
 Primary goals of committee are
o Provide CTAs with tools to support U10 tennis
o Support military efforts by registering CTAs to support Adopt a Unit program
o Develop CTA health check index and CTA tool kit.
Other goals and partnerships
 Partner with TIP Committee to collaborate to discuss working together and bring more ideas to help
each other increase tennis play
 Greater CTA presence at US Open, Kiosks for attendees to find community activity
 Increased use of SharePoint
 Formalize liaison assignments between committees
 Promote the insurance benefit to CTAs
5 Project Teams Developed:
 10 & Under Tennis—Jean Greenwood, leader
 Awards & Recognition---Jane Morrill-leader
 CTA Benefits---Donn Davis -leader
 Communication—Peter Francesconi--leader
 Education & Workshops –Alex Lee--leader
o Other Items CTAs will support:
 Support the military initiative with Adopt-A-Unit
 Develop a health index tool kit
 To evaluate members
 Give the CTAs tools to make their organization as strong as possible
Staff Report – David Slade
 The number of CTAs has been steadily growing and will hope to end with 1100 CTAs
 Looking to make sure we have as many as possible of our CTAs insured to reach our goal of 600
 83% of CTAs are registered as a non-profit organizations



CTDW this year was one of the largest
o 2012 will be held in New Orleans, LA
The launch of our Facebook page last year helped connect all CTAs and we’re looking to populate our
page more
o Presently have 441 members who “like” our page and hoping to increase that number
Main goal is to get CTAs to get their courts lined with 36 foot and 60 courts to reach our goal of 3000
courts this year
Break down of Project Team Goals
 10 & Under Tennis – Jean Greenwood
o Start collecting best practices of blended lines
o Set up a system of Q&A
 Have that linked to 10 & Under site
 Awards and Recognition – Jane Morrill
o Establish later dates for CTA of the Year and Eve Kraft to get more people to apply
 The two “established” CTA Awards, presented at the annual CTDW, are the CTA of the
Year and the Eve Kraft Awards. The Project Team would like a submission deadline of
October 1st giving CTAs and Sections more time to submit a nomination. The decision
deadline would then be November 1st . Jane agreed to confirm with Janet Hanasik that
these deadlines would work with the video team.
 The Project Team will publish the new rules for potential CTA winners. No CTA that
has received Org. of the Year or CTA of the Year in the past ten years can receive the
CTA of the Year Award. This information will be put on the website and on the
application. A directory of the winners for the last 10 years will also be put on the
website.
o Sub-committee is going to become mentors so they can have direct contact with CTAs
 The Project Team will become mentors for designated sections in order to encourage all
sections to submit nominations for both awards. Each team member will mentor his/her
own section plus one or two others. Personal phone calls will be made to encourage
participation. Mike has agreed to e-mail the other Section EDs once we have firm
deadlines. This will precede out personal phone calls.
o Contact the last 10 winners so they can be recognized
 The Project Team would like to see deserving CTAs receive recognition outside the
USTA venue. Therefore, Peter is going to help us find the possible award organizations.
Suggested places, in addition to the RSI Award, were TIA, PTA and PTR. We all
agreed to look at those websites to see if we could identify potential awards for CTAs.
o Hope to make everything an online submission
 CTA Benefits – Donn Davis
o The primary purpose of the meeting was to update new team members on the projects that are
already in place and then assign team members to projects for the current term. The following
assignments were made at this meeting:
 Promote benefits of CTA registration (brochure)
A. Walters
 Market CTA insurance program
J. Morrill & P. Pittman
 Develop CTA model of success (NEW)
J. Foster & J. Gamble
 Consolidate best practices, post to web sites
R. Woods (Big Serve, etc.)
 Evaluate US Open recognition for CTAs
P. Francesconi
 Finalize CTA promotional slide show
A. Walters
 Develop CTA Health Check Tool (NEW)
J. Foster & J. Gamble


 Develop a Health Initiative message for CTAs (NEW)
J. Foster & J. Gamble
 Resource Guide
C. Reynolds
o The projects listed in blue above have been combined into one project and will be managed by
Judy Foster and Jane Gamble. A name proposed for this new project is CTA Health Check
Index. It will absorb the projects formally known as the CTA Tool Kit and CTA Model for
Success, as they will be integral parts of developing the CTA Health Check Index.
Education & Workshops – Alex Lee
o Use TSRs to train CTAs at the District Level
o Use Web Workshops to train CTAs
o CT National Workshops (no more regional workshops)
o Add kiosk for our (CTA) presence at the US Open
 So that people can research there local CTAs in their area
o Update the CTA Guide
Communication – Peter Francesconi
o The Communications Project Team is made up of the team leaders from the four Project Teams
above, plus Paula Hale. The Communications team did not meet during the Annual Meeting, but
will have a conference call to go over specific projects/deadlines that each project team discussed
at the meeting. Some broad goals include:
 CTA Website—offer our help as far as ways we can ensure it is as accessible and usable
as possible.
 CTA Newsletter—Each project team should have at least one item in each newsletter.
 Award and Grant Applications/Workshops—Publicize these to ensure we receive more
applications. Also publicize the winners.
