POSITION TITLE: Harm Reduction and SESSIONS Facilitator

LOCATION: 40 Orchard View Blvd, Toronto, M4R 1B9, and other agency locations

POSITION TYPE: FULL-TIME 1 YEAR CONTRACT (37.5 hours/week)

POSTING CLOSING DATE: Monday, June 15, 2015

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This is a combined position providing harm reduction training and consultation to staff and outreach and direct interventions to youth for 20 hours per week. The remaining 17.5 hours per week will be spent facilitating SESSIONS Drug Education for Youth workshops and providing support to the

Curriculum Development Department. This position will includes supervisions of two youth advisors who will support the creation of a harm reduction resource center for youth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide harm reduction training, consultation, case analysis and direct outreach and intervention to youth.

 Assess the training needs of all DYS staff groups

 Develop and deliver 6 three-hour harm reduction trainings for staff (25) based on assessed training needs

 Provide 30 team consultations and 40 individual consultations with a harm reduction focus to

DYS staff

 Conduct weekly outreach to support 25 DYS program youth and former DYS youth and meet with them to provide resources, referrals and connections to needed support services

 Develop and deliver 5 workshops on harm reduction drawing from existing DYS Drug education resources and deliver to 12 youth from various DYS programs

 Work with youth advisors to develop a resource centre for youth, geared to their needs, with links to quality, up-to-date information on substances and helpful interventions; resource center should have a central location and internet presence

Facilitate SESSIONS workshops and provide support to the Curriculum Development Department

 Facilitate drug education workshops in accordance with the established curriculum documents for both youth and adults who care for youth (parents, caregivers, educators, service providers)

 Establish and promote an open, safe space where youth or adult participants feel comfortable discussing drugs and drug use without judgment

 Work to decrease drug related stigma in the workshop space so all participants feel valued and respected regardless of drug use experience

 Address racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynist, classist and/or otherwise oppressive language/behavior issues proactively through established relationships with a focus on education

 Provide informal confidential support and referral to appropriate services to meet required needs in the context of workshop facilitation

 Support youth to develop skills in managing peer and adult relationships, communication and group engagement within the context of the workshops

 Support adult participants to develop effective communication skills to talk to young people about substance use from a harm reduction perspective

 Ensure that youth-specific resources and literature are readily available and accessible

 Maintain records, documentation and data base(s), collecting participant and evaluation data to ensure the success of Delisle’s Drug Education programs

 Maintain fidelity to established curriculum and provide feedback through documentation, and evaluation protocols

 Utilize social media, email and the Delisle Youth Services website to publicize workshops and enhance program activities

 Connect with relevant community stakeholders to promote workshops and conduct participant outreach

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

 Diploma or degree in a field related to harm reduction, social work, child and youth work or health promotion

 At least 3 years facilitation experience with youth and adults from diverse ethno-cultural and socio-economic backgrounds including street-involved youth, youth with diverse intellectual abilities and racialized communities

 Expertise, experience and thorough knowledge of harm reduction and experience working in harm reduction setting with youth

 Ability to consult with a wide range of professionals working with youth

 Ability to deliver non-judgemental, balanced, drug neutral education material from a harm reduction framework

 Ability to follow an established curriculum and adhere to a fidelity model

 Excellent computer literacy, communication, teamwork, leadership and advocacy skills and the ability to work independently

 Ability to multi-task and engage participants in workshop activities while managing responses to sometimes difficult and controversial material

 Training in motivational interviewing and/or stages of change models an asset

 Ability to track key outputs and outcomes and complete required reporting
