POSITION DESCRIPTION:
ARTS PRESENTATION MANAGER
The Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans (CAC) seeks a
permanent, full-time, benefits eligible Arts Presentation
Manager, reporting to the Curator of Performing Arts.
WHO WE ARE
The Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) is a financially stable
and professionally managed multi-disciplinary contemporary
arts center that is dedicated to the presentation,
production, and promotion of the art of our time. It
expresses its mission by organizing world class curated
exhibitions, a multi-disciplinary schedule of live
performances , and public programs; educating and enlarging
audiences for the arts while encouraging collaboration
among diverse stakeholders composed of artists,
institutions, communities, and supporters throughout the
world.
The CAC was formed as a non-collecting organization by a
passionate group of artists in the fall of 1976 when the
movement to tear down the aesthetic barriers between the
performing and visual arts was active nationwide. Housed in
a four-story, 80,000 square foot building with two adjacent
10,000 square foot warehouses, the CAC boasts among its
many physical assets a 210 seat flexible theater as well as
11,000 square feet exhibition spaces.
Performing Arts Department
A live art program that includes but is not limited to
theater, dance and music, the performing arts department
supports the CAC visual arts programming with innovative
presentations that express theatrical elements relating to
visual art curation and encourages national and
international recognition of local artists presented at
CAC. In addition, the performing arts department creates
and executes lectures, events and post-show artist
discussions that represent the aesthetic and vision of the
CAC.
While the CAC aims to execute extraordinary presentations
of all live touring work, it also strives to cultivate and
support local artists with the intention of spring-boarding
them to regional, national and international levels through
mentorship, programming opportunities and financial
development. Please note: artists/ensembles working in nontraditional narrative, devised, ‘ground up’ creation,
street art will be priority for CAC performing arts
programming. The CAC encourages and supports creativity in
its staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ARTS PRESENTATION MANAGER
1. Supervise all CAC activity with featured artists
including but not limited to housing, ground
transportation arrangements, and the orientation of
artists to the local community;
2. Manage relationships between the CAC performing arts
department, host organizations, and community
organizations in regards to artist visits;
3. Manage all performing arts departmental check requests
for curatorial and production needs; this includes but
is not limited to bi-weekly budget updates for
departmental meetings;
4. Collaborate with other departments for all scheduled
performing arts presentations, discussions and special
events;
5. Execute logistics of all subsidized rentals managed by
the PA department;
6. Execute the staffing of PA performances and
presentations determined by PA department. This
includes development of internship program with
production & artistic hosting;
7. Maintain all information/correspondences of any/all
performances for interdepartmental perusal;
8. Create/Utilize in conjunction with Technical Director
rehearsal reports for all presentations, including but
not limited to load-in/out, equipment rental returns
and space cleaning;
9. Contribute to project-based grant research for the
Performing Arts Department, including but not limited
to pursuit of sponsorship for PA programming.
RELATIONSHIPS



Reports to the Curator of Performing Arts;
Works alongside Technical Director
Serves as an integral part of the CAC’s Performing
Arts Department
REQUIREMENTS




Experience: 2-5 years experience in theater producing
and/or arts administration;
Minimum B.A. or equivalent 4 years experience in
professional performance/visuals arts organization as
artistic administrator;
Second language skill in Spanish, French or Chinese a
plus;
Early management position 3 years minimum experience.
