The Calloway County School District has received the highest label given by the Kentucky Department of
Education—District of Distinction—based on the recently-released accountability data for the 2013-14
school year. CCSD scored at the 96th statewide percentile. This is the third consecutive year that the
district reached the Distinguished category.
Calloway County Superintendent Steve Hoskins announced, “As we look at a new round of test data, we
are excited to see the results of the planning and hard work of students and staff. We are very pleased
when we compare Calloway County with the rest of the districts in Kentucky.”
For the second year in a row, Calloway County High School earned a Distinguished/School of Distinction
rating, ranking in the 96th percentile statewide. Principal Randy McCallon said, "At Calloway County High
School, we are very excited about the success we had during the 2013-14 assessment cycle. Our senior
class members worked hard to acquire college and career ready status, and it showed in the outcomes. I
can’t say enough about the faculty, staff, and school council and their willingness to do whatever it takes
to work with students.”
Southwest Elementary earned a rating of Distinguished/Progressing- High Performing School. Said
principal Josh McKeel, “Southwest is very proud of our results on K-PREP. Our faculty, staff, volunteers,
and students work diligently each and every day to get better and to give our 212-degree best. As a
school, we take great pride in ensuring that every student receives what they need to be successful, that
each student develops a sense of accountability for their own learning, and that we take the time to
recognize and celebrate our achievements.”
North Elementary’s accountability index placed them in the Proficient category. Principal Melinda
Hendley said, “North is extremely proud of the hard work and dedication of our students as they
continue to shine and grow. For three years running, in the area of science, our students have scored a
100. We are also very proud that we have continued to climb in achievement and gap. We will continue
to work hard to prepare our students for the future.”
East Elementary achieved a rating of Proficient/Progressing. Principal Kathy Crouch said, “East is very
excited about the hard work our students exhibited on the K-PREP test last spring. Science and language
mechanics each had scores of 100. Our on-demand writing, which had been an area of weakness, saw
incredible growth.”
Calloway County Middle School was designated as Proficient and scored at the 84th state percentile.
Principal Amy Turner noted, "We are excited to see gains in our reading and science scores. While there
is room for continued improvement, we are pleased to see that our teachers and students are dedicated
to excellence in all areas.”
Superintendent Hoskins added, "We not only want to sustain our high level of performance, we want to
improve. As we study and disaggregate that new data right down to the individual student, there are
already changes being implemented in preparation for the next round of testing.”
