DISTRICTS OF THE EFCA Local Evangelical Free Churches are organized into 17 districts, each having its own superintendent and Board of Directors. The role of the superintendent, along with the district board, is to serve pastors and local churches and assist in planting new churches. Each District also hosts their own conferences and has affiliated ministries including camping, retirement homes, and social service organizations. Districts hold a unique place in the organizational structure of the movement. Local churches affiliate with the EFCA as a movement by joining their district organization. To be a part of the EFCA, each church must be committed to the EFCA Statement of Faith and have a congregational form of government. Each district is appointed by the Board of Directors and exists to serve the local congregations entrusted to their care. District superintendents also meet regularly to discuss matters of mutual interest and also to give input to the national organization concerning enhancement of the various ministries of the EFCA. The local church recommends candidates for ministerial licensing and ordination. These individuals are interviewed by a district examining committee and then recommended by the district superintendent to the national Board of Ministerial Standing, which gives final approval for ministerial credentials. This process is used to ensure the quality of the doctrinal positions and the character integrity of those who will serve within the EFCA.
