Year End Excursions for 2015-2016
It takes a whole year to plan for our complete Year End Excursion Package for our 450 students and 40
staff members. For several reasons planning could not be initiated until recently. The Stanley Park staff
has been meeting for several weeks now researching, processing and collaborating to determine a plan
that takes into consideration our goal of offering an end of elementary school experience for our
graduating grade 8 students, and a celebratory experience for our grade 7 students. We have used
three filters in our review process – cost (including how fundraising works), logistics (including who is
responsible for all the planning for every student in the building during these voluntary opportunities –
with consideration to all the labor groups involved in making these opportunities possible) and
philosophical alignment with the ministry of education/our board of education and our school
(considering inclusive, accessible and equitable experiences for all students).
We are excited about our Year End Excursions and want to make the transition to high school a positive
one. The review process for Year End Excursions has been thorough and has involved coordinating staff
members, general staff, administration, office staff and our superintendent of education. We have
considered a plan for this year, and a plan for years to come. This is a unique set of circumstances and
although, as a team, we have had a chance to process all of the variables involved in such a large
undertaking we know that it may take some time for each student and family to process; it is the best
that we have to offer at this time. The Year End Excursions, complimented by our Grade 8 Graduation
Ceremony will be an exciting time for our Gators.
Fundraising will take place in a format that offers our whole population to engage in activities or events
that we plan for the whole school to raise money. These profits will go to offset the costs of Year End
Excursions, and they will also support the general good of the school. Credit Based Fundraising will not
be offered. Cost quoted below may vary depending on Fundraising activities and our ability to lower the
overall cost of activities.
