Abraham Lincoln High School Counselor Management Agreement 2011 – 2012 STUDENT ACCESS: Students will access the school counselor by grade level. DOMAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Looking at the site needs/strengths, counselors will provide services in the following domains: Academic Domain: Counselors will be delivering a developmental model to support students in setting goals about their present and future, to learn about resources, and to achieve academic success throughout their high school experience with the following activities: Freshman Success Lessons Access for all students to honors, AP and college classes Pre-registration Class assignments Academic counseling Post-graduate planning Student Success Team Response to Intervention (RTI) Individual Student Planning Scholarships Graduation Survey Scholarship Survey Parent Meetings (Grades 9-12) Academic Support Groups PEP - Personal Education Plan. Includes 4 year plan, career goal, college essay, personal statement, post-secondary goal Career Domain/Post-Secondary Planning: Discussion and presentations about students’ careers and post-secondary plans will be a part of the counseling program, and will be specifically addressed through: Concurrent Enrollment Access to early college opportunities College/post-secondary visits PEP – Personal Education Plan – career interest survey Career Exploration through the College in Colorado (CIC) and Naviance websites Personal/Social Domain: Students’ personal and social issues will be addressed on a daily basis and will represent a variety of concerns that are initiated by students, parents and school personnel. These issues will be addressed through: Support Groups Individual Counseling Response to Intervention (RTI) Suicide Risk Assessment Student Success Teams Consultation with parents, teachers, administration and advisors Outside referrals Resource lists Crisis response Rationale for decision: The mission statement: The professional school counselors at Abraham Lincoln High School are committed to providing academic excellence, post-secondary and workforce readiness, and social growth for all students in collaboration with school personnel, parents, and community members. School counselors, as an integral part of Abraham Lincoln High School learning community, support all students in developing the necessary tools to foster personal responsibility in preparing for future transitions and becoming culturally sensitive and productive citizens in our ever-changing society. PROGRAMMATIC DELIVERY: The counselors will spend approximately the following time in each component area to ensure the delivery of the school counseling program. 15% of the time delivering guidance curriculum 35% of the time with individual student planning 30% of the time with responsive services 20% of the time with system support SCHOOL COUNSELOR AVAILABILITY: The school counseling department will be open for student/parent/teacher access from 6:30 – 3:30 each day. PROGRAMS AND SERVICES: Programs and services presented and available to parents include: Back to School Night Individual family conferences Parent/teacher conferences Support with parent engagement activities Family connections through the Naviance website Access to attendance and grade information through Infinite Campus Report cards and transcripts Communication access using email, letter and phone calls Crisis intervention Programs and services presented and available to staff include: Classroom guidance lessons Individual conferencing and consultation regarding classroom situations and individual students Academic interventions and support for individual students Test preparation materials and support Consultation with grade-level team regarding individual students needs Annual articulation among department coordinators and counselors to update accurate department information regarding course offerings and prerequisites Community liaisons, programs and services will include: Referral to outside agencies as needed Ongoing communication with School Resource Officer to provide for a safe community Ongoing communication and articulation with college admission staff Work with community to provide students with summer opportunities, including internships, employment and college partner opportunities THE SCHOOL COUNSELORS WILL BE COMPENSATED FOR EXTRA WORK HOURS (BEYOND WORK DAY) BY: Flex hours MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES: What materials and supplies are necessary for the implementation of the school counseling program? Technology (printers, computers, fax machines, copy machines) Ability to make copies of curricular materials Postage costs Student Incentives General office supplies Computer software programs Curriculum for groups The following funding resources support the school counseling program Counseling department budget PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: The school counseling program will participate in the following professional development: Rocky Mountain Association of College Admissions Counselor (RMACAC) National Office of School Counseling Advocacy (NOSCA) Colorado School Counseling Association (CSCA) Appropriate/relevant school professional development District level counseling professional development The school counselors represent Lincoln in the following capacities: Colorado School Counseling Association (CSCA) - Regional Representative Oregon State University – PhD student College Fairs of Greater Denver – President of the Board of Directors College Board Western Region Guidance and Admissions Committee PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION: The school counseling department will meet: Four times a week as a counseling department Once a year with the school staff and faculty Weekly with administration As needed with subject-area departments OFFICE ORGANIZATION: Responsibilities for the support services provided to the counseling team will be divided among the support services staff as follows: The school counseling secretary will maintain counselor schedules, answer phones, provide reception for parents, students and other visitors to the office, and provide administrative assistant services. The registrar will maintain student cumulative files and process forms and information from new students. The student assistants will deliver passes and complete tasks as directed by secretaries. The Concurrent Enrollment counselor will be responsible for all Concurrent Enrollment (CE) scheduling, paperwork, recruiting, updating grades, informing teachers/students/parents/faculty/administration/other counselors, and attending all CE meetings. The CE counselor will also be the counseling liaison to college class faculty and be a support to the student in the CE classes. The counselor will also be responsible for other counselor duties. The CE counselor’s caseload will be all CE students. Counseling Paraprofessionals will be responsible for collecting and maintaining student files, reproducing needed materials, assisting with student record keeping, assisting students in the completion of various forms and applications, assisting with scheduling the school counselor’s meetings and programs, and keeping records. Additionally, they will assist with correspondence, assist in the dissemination of information to stakeholders, coordinate resources and counseling materials, and enter and collect data.
