President’s update
Competitions
RH resigned on 23/09/2015 for medical reasons. As such, a competition will no
longer be going ahead.
Networking Event
Working relationship with TDLA – they have now taken over the organisation
process. The exec should attend their Christmas
TCLS and NQWLS have confirmed their attendance with RS.
No costs will be associated with this event. The School of Law will pay for catering.
Including alcohol.
Eventbrite has been set up. There are a limited number of tickets. RS will set it up
today.
DD will invite ADF and Career Trackers.
Attending Meetings
Exec members should be committed to attending meetings when scheduled. It
important to attend or let the secretary know if you can not attend.
Tax Return
Financial reports have not been submitted. A letter has been received by the ATO.
Banner
We have $300 for a grant. The cheapest one is $311. This includes assistance in
designing the banner.
JH moves a motion, seconded by RS, that the JCULSS purchases a banner for a price
of up to $400.
Motion passed unanimously.
Law Society Room
We are still working on getting a room for the JCULSS.
Constitutional Changes
Proposal to combine International, Mature Age and ATSI positions.
PLT
ANU and QUT have both agreed to a Friday. College of Law has not communitcated
with RS yet.
Treasurer’s Report
MC sent apologies. RS updated the exec.
Law Ball
One lecturer still has not paid for her ticket. The photographer ($200) also still needs
to pay. Assuming the lecture pays for her ticket, the loss of law ball will be $116.03.
If not, loss will be $263.03
JM and JH need to be reimbursed for Law Ball expenses.
General
The general account has $11,561.48. This will increase, as MC has not deposited
money from pub-crawl yet. RS will do that within the week.
The Term Deposit is at $10,181.34.
The JCULSS will also be receiving $500-$600 from the SA grants.
Social Representative
Law Ball
Without Ji Burton helping at Law Ball, Law Ball would not have been successful. Ji
Burton was managing decorations for Law Ball. EH, MS, JH, JM and SS were present
for set up.
Rydges wanted to change the speakers. Security kicked the exec out at pack up as
they were under the impression Ji Burton was managing the event.
Special guests and speakers were good. The night was a success overall. There has
been a lot of positive feedback.
The lectures were a positive contribution to Law Ball. The lecturers’ table is also a
good place to put guest lectures.
JM, EH, MS, LA, JH, and SKS were all present to pack up after Law Ball in addition
with Ji Burton (who is not on the exec).
Social Justice Lecture Series
Second lecture is at 5:30pm on 7 October.
AGM
Week 13 is the only free week we have – considering all the other events the JCULSS
has going on.
The AGM will be held on Friday, 30 October 2015 at 10am. Room TBA.
JH will send the nominations and forms out to RS to send an email through to the
Law School.
