All words in the sentence should begin with M as in monkey. Examples: Monkeys move. Monkeys mop. Monkeys mimic motorcycles. Monkeys mash melons. Monkeys munch marshmallows. Millions more monkeys made monster masks. Planned Activity: 2. Collect pictures of zoo babies and their mothers. Giraffe Collage This Giraffe Collage is made from simple craft materials and is the perfect craft for older toddlers and preschoolers! Here's what you'll need... 1 Hour • Yellow and brown construction paper • Brown paint • Paper plate or shallow dish • Brown yarn (or small strips of brown paper) • Pencil • Scissors • Glue • Google eyes or black marker Here's how you make it... 1. Trace and cut out a yellow foot print (a foot with a shoe on shape for the head). Cut out 2 ears, 2 horns and a neck. makes a better 2. Glue all your Giraffe parts onto the brown paper. 3. The Giraffe's neck will probably hang over the edge, so trim it even with a pair of scissors. 4. Pour a small amount of brown paint into a paper plate or shallow dish. Put spots all over your Giraffe by dipping a finger(s) into the brown paint and pressing it onto your Giraffe. Then glue on your google eyes, or draw them on with a black marker. 5. Planned Activity 1. Animal Sort- Collect pictures of elephants, lions, monkeys and other zoo animals from magazines. The children will enjoy cutting these pictures out. Sort the pictures into labeled baskets. One basket may be for large animals, another for small animals, etc. Planned Activity 2. Paper Plate Zebra Craft: This adorable zebra craft uses a printable template and a paper plate to make a project suitable for a zoo animal. If you cut out holes instead of using the template eyes, you can convert your zebra craft to a zebra mask. Attach a paint stir stick or tongue depressor to allow your child to hold it up to their face. Materials: paper plate, something to color with (or color printer), scissors, glue, paper, printer. OPTIONAL FOR MASK: paint stir stick, thin strip of wood or tongue depressor. Instructions: Color (where appropriate) and cut out the template pieces. Elephant Walk- Go for an "elephant walk" in one long line. Everyone is to stretch one hand each back through their legs and, with the other hand, take the outstretched hand of the person in front. The children will be lined up, attached like elephants holding trunks and tails. Move to slow music. Planned Activity 2. Elephant Soccer- Children get into a circle with legs wide apart. Hold their arms down in front of them with hands clasped together for trunks. Roll a ball across the circle trying to get it between someone's legs. Art activity: Macaroni Lion This Macaroni Lion is an easy craft for kids. The best part is you only need a few simple craft materials to make this cute creature! Here's what you'll need... • Rotini (spiral pasta) • Paper plate or sturdy paper • Paint and brush (if you're using a paper plate) • Glue • Black marker • Google eyes (optional) Here's how you make it... 1. Cut a circle from a paper plate or sturdy paper. If you are using a paper plate you will need to paint it yellow, make sure you paint the back of the paper plate (the eating side usually has a coating on it the makes it hard to paint on). 2. Glue your spiral macaroni all around the outside of your circle to make your lion's mane. 3. After dividing into two groups, the children race each other across the floor, on hands and feet, with stomachs in the air with pouches (beanbags) perched on their stomachs. Ask each child which animal they wanted to see the most, and then make masks of that animal with paper plates, construction paper, and yarn. Add stones and toothpick trees (found at party stores in drink section). Make sure you remember to glue everything down good and let dry before introducing your zoo animal to its new home. Elephant Mask What You Need: Construction paper, Paper plate, Stapler What You Do: 1. Cut construction paper in half-length wise and staple together to make a band which will fit on kids head. 2. Cut paper plates in half and slit it on the top so that it can fit on the sides of the band and staple them to the band to look like ears. 3. For the trunk roll a piece of construction paper up (to look like a tube) and tape it, then staple it to the center of the band to look like the trunk coming down. 9:30AM-10:30AM Small Group Time (allow students to discuss any new experiences. Read a story.) 10:30-11:15AM Art- Penguin Potato What You Need: Potato (one cut in half, and one cut long ways), Paint, Construction Paper What You Do: After talking about penguins give the children the supplies give them the supplies. If the children choose to they can make great penguin design by painting with potatoes.
