Beltramini Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) Antonio José da Costa Filho, Rosangela Itri, Fábio Ceneviva Lacerda Almeida, Leila M. Beltramini, Eneida de Paula Summary The International Workshop on Spectroscopy for Biology (IWSB) was a meeting of interdisciplinary nature, with a view of disseminating, among graduate students and young investigators, cutting edge techniques used to investigate biologically relevant systems. This workshop served to introduce students from Brazil and surrounding countries to modern biophysical techniques such as NMR, fluorescence, ESR, circular dichroism, IR, X-ray scattering, microscopies and molecular simulations. Furthermore, during this year´s workshop we celebrated Prof. Shirley Schreier´s 70th birthday. Prof. Schreier is one of the Biophysics pioneers in Brazil, who has always been committed with good science and education of the students. This third edition of the workshop had a strong participation of graduate students and post-docs, who certainly benefit from the close contact with the leading scientist present, a balanced blend of local and internationally renowned scientists, who presented overviews of their expertises in terms of biophysical techniques as well as applications in protein structure and conformation, membrane properties, lipid domains, mechanisms of peptides interaction, biotechnological applications, among others. The lecturers stood during the entire week of the event, which allowed a deeper interaction between students and speakers. IWSB was a nice event in terms of setting the perfect conditions to stimulate scientific discussions and exchange of state-of-the-art knowledge between young researchers and well-known scientists from different parts of the world. Moreover, IWSB was an event totally dedicated to modern biophysical techniques, creating an adequate forum for the Biophysical community in Brazil and Latin America, to greatly benefit from the scientific program. The overall evaluation of the Workshop was excellent (77.6%) or good (22.4%) by 51 students that voluntarily fulfilled the IUPAB evaluation form. The organization, accommodation, quality of presentations, duration and facilities were equally well evaluated, as summarized below. The Venue & Location: Maresias Beach Hotel, São Sebastião, SP, Brasil The Scientific Programme (attached below) Changes in the programme: Dr. Paulo Bish could not present his speech so distributed his time and invited 2 additional participants to give oral presentations (15 min each), namely: Dr. Rosana Chehin (Argentina) and Dr. Maria Eliana Lanio Ruiz (Cuba).
