Young people’s sport panel 2016 Application information sheet Welcome to the information sheet to read more about the application process to be part of the Young people's sport panel. AGED BETWEEN 14-25? WANT TO PROVIDE A VOICE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN SPORT? PASSIONATE ABOUT SPORT? GOT UP TO 3 HOURS A WEEK TO OFFER? WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE? Your options for applying are: Online Printed application Video application Applying online It should take you around 20 minutes to complete the application. YOU CANNOT SAVE AS YOU GO – so consider preparing your answers in advance and inputting them in one go or you can print the application form and go through it and fill it online once you have completed all the sections. Printed application form If you wish to send in a printed application, the address is: YPSP 2016 sportscotland Caledonia House 1 Redheughs Rigg Edinburgh EH12 9DQ Video application If you would prefer to upload a short video, tips on how to upload this to YouTube can be found at the end of this document. You need to record your film before you start your application so you have the URL ready to paste into the correct question. Within the 3 minutes maximum duration of your video, you must include: Answers to the general questions – name, age, address etc. The questions and then answer – read each question and its number aloud before answering. Referee information – please speak aloud the name, position and contact details for this person. Equality information – please speak this information aloud. Preference for interview date and location – please speak this information aloud. The closing date for all applications is noon Monday 22nd February. What you need to know Questions 1 and 2 require 150 words or less or a 1 minute video clip or less. There are two parts to question 3 (a) and (b) both require 150 words or less or a 1 minute video clip in total with both answers combined. Questions Here are the questions we ask, we have given some examples to help you prepare for the application, but these are only suggestions so please add anything you feel would strengthen your application: General questions to find out more about you; name, address etc. Question 1 – Your experience in sport? Helpful hint: What have you done, how have you been involved by providing examples e.g. volunteering, spectator, participating, coaching, officiating, event/competition organiser, member of a committee, ambassador, journalist, designer. Question 2 - Your ideas? If you had an opportunity to be part of the Young people’s sport panel for the next two years what difference would you like to make to improve opportunities in sport? Helpful hint: Please give us examples of what you would like to do within the role to make a difference. Consider your aspirations for the sport panel, impact you want to make from being involved. Question 3 - Have you got what it takes? There are two parts to this question: (a) Tell us why you have applied? (b) What can you bring to this role? Helpful hint: Please share with us what attracted you to apply and give us examples of what skills, knowledge and experience you can bring to the sport panel role. Referee Supply us with the contact details of a referee - this could be a teacher, coach, support worker, work colleague or someone similar (where possible this should not be a relative, family member or friend). What happens next? Please let us know at the end of your application your preference for day and location for the next stage of the application process. The next stage is an information and informal interview of 1 hour at your choice of several locations across the country. We will contact you if you are successfully through to this stage to confirm the time, but interview sessions will take place between the hours of 9.30am – 7.00pm. This stage will involve you meeting some current sport panel members to find out a bit more about the sport panel followed by an informal interview by a member of the sport panel recruitment team to get to know you better. We can offer an option to applicants living further afield from the interview venues to Skype/video conference for this stage. All applicants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Travel expenses incurred will be reimbursed to applicants for all stages (within reason), you will be required on the day to fill in a form and provide any travel receipts for processing. Your application will not be passed to any third parties or be used for any other purposes. GOOD LUCK and we look forward to receiving your applications! How to upload a video using your iphone: 1. Download the free YouTube app from itunes 2. Tap on the camera app in your phone 3. Ensure you have selected the video recording option 4. Record your video (please keep it to less than 3 minutes in total) 5. Select your video to send to sportscotland 6. Tap the share button in the bottom left hand corner 7. Select the YouTube option from the list 8. Type in title – YPSP2016 First Name Surname e.g. YPSP – John Smith 9. Type in description – YPSP2016 First Name Surname e.g. YPSP – John Smith 10. PLEASE SELECT UNLISTED (this ensures your video will only be shared with sportscotland and won’t be listed on YouTube for public viewing) 11. Select tell a friend, from the draft email produced, select the URL and then copy and paste it into your application form. 12. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR APPLICATION How to upload an unlisted video onto YouTube (using your computer) 1. Your video can be recorded using your smartphone, flipcam, tablet or video camera 2. Once you have recorded your video save your file as required to your phone, desktop etc 3. Go to www.youtube.com 4. Please sign up or sign in to YouTube.com (if you have a Google mail account you should be able to use this, if not then you can use your own email address). 5. Click upload at the top of the page: 6. Please select unlisted from the dropdown list. This ensures your video can only be seen by those who have the link and won’t appear in any of YouTube’s public spaces. sportscotland will not share the link with any unknown parties and the video will only be used for initial recruitment purposes. 7. Click on the select files to upload and select where you have saved your file to upload from. 8. Name your video – we would like you to name them as follows: YPSP2016 – first name surname e.g. YPSP John Smith 9. Save, once saved click on video manager in the top right hand corner as shown above 10. Click on your uploaded video 11.
