Format: Performance Task Social Studies Required Reporting Topic Geographical Understandings Estimated Time: 3 days Brief Description: Create an informational brochure which compares and contrasts the 3 monotheistic religions of the Middle East (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam) Assessment Protocol: Brochure is to be completed individually, separate from instruction, and may be done during OR outside of class time. Materials Needed: Sheets of copy paper folded into thirds OR may use Publisher document and clip art. If completing without computer, will need pencils and coloring utensils. Instructions for Students: Culture- The student will understand that the culture of a society is the product of the religion, beliefs, customs, traditions, and government of that society. EQs: What are the similarities and differences between Judaism, Islam, and Christianity? How was religion important to the development of the cultures of the Middle East? In many situations, brochures are provided to give a brief description of a product, business, service, or place. You are the Department of Defense Cultural Liaison and you have been directed to create an informational brochure about the three monotheistic religions of the Middle East. This brochure will be distributed to U.S. soldiers newly deployed to the region. It is your task to create a brochure as a means of educating the soldiers about the religious culture of the area so that they will have both knowledge and respect for each of these religions. Your brochure must include at least 3 commonalities among the religions and must be non-judgmental in its presentation of the facts. In addition, your brochure should include the following: definition of monotheism, name of each religion's founder, name of each religion's holy book, name of each religion's name for God, symbol for each religion, each religion's place of worship, each religion's view of Jerusalem, each religion's connection to Abraham, and common holy sites.
