Finnish Lapphund Club of Great Britain Championship Show Judge Mrs Pat Patch I must thank the Committee of the above club for giving me the opportunity to judge their Championship Show. It was a real honour to do so and although I was not well with a bout of ‘flu I enjoyed my day. The Club looked after me very well and the Exhibitors were very sporting and congratulated each other, in the ring, which made for a happy atmosphere. Thank you all. However, I must say that I was still concerned about the oversize of some of the youngsters and indeed of a few of the older exhibits. I hope that some of the breeders will try to breed out this trait. There were also a few of the younger dogs who had correct proportions and type to their heads but they were too small for their bodies at the time of judging. I know that the head is the last to develop so I hope that the puppies will become more balanced as they get older. Having made the above statement I must say that I was extremely pleased with my overall winners. DOG C.C. Res DOG C.C. BITCH C.C. Res BITCH C.C. Head of correct proportions and a good dark eye. As always at one with his handler. 2nd Allison’s LuxCh OBERITZ OIVALLUS (RE-IMP) This veteran looks a lot younger than his nearly ten years. Another good head with a stronger muzzle than 1 but I thought the movement was rather close behind. 3rd Bright’s SAMBREEZE HAMARA KAAKOA Nearly nine. This brown male was in really good coat and stood on correct oval feet. Well balance throughout with good bone but didn’t mo ve as well as the other two, today. SPECIAL VINTAGE DOG – NO ENTRIES MINOR PUPPY DOG – 5 (0) 1st Mitchell’s & Battye’s OBERITZ TROLLKONSTNAR What a lovely youngster. For me he is the correct size and proportion for his age of just six months. Good thick coat and strong bone. Moved well. His handler needs to put in a little more training with him being handled by the judge but I was able to see his teeth, at the last moment. One I would have liked to take home. 2nd Allan’s & Mowatt’s IMPERIAL STORM SHADOW DU PAYS DE L’AU RORE A larger puppy than 1 so I hope that he has done most of his growing. However he was in proportion and balanced throughout. 3rd Breakspear’s & Perkins’ ELBERETH VALKOTASSU A very well traine d puppy. Pleasing head but I would prefer a broader skull, for a male. Good coat. 4th Ohara’s & Bowler’s ELBERETH MATTI 5th Clarke’s OBERITZ TROLLNISSE 2 PUPPY DOG – 5 (0) 1st Eaton’s & Mowatt’s TABANYARUU NALLE ROOPE This puppy was l arger than the rest but not too large. In outline he stood well, on good oval feet and kept his topline on the move. Good profuse coat. Head proportions were correct. 2nd Breakspear’s & Perkins’ ELBERETH VALKOTASSU 3rd in minor puppy. 3rd Ohara’s & Bowler’s ELBERETH MATTI Better behaved, in this class . Good head with broad muzzle. Ears well placed with a slight tip, which is perfectly correct as in the standard 4th Perry’s TABANYARUU NALLE TOIVO 5th Clarke’s OBERITZ TROLLNISSE JUNIOR DOG – 4 (0) 1st French’s ALKANTARA ILOLASSON A lovely wolf sable correct to th e standard. I will watch his career with interest. Correct balanced proportions throughout, being slightly longer than tall. Good head proportions and all male! At the moment his ears look slightly too big but I’m sure that he will ‘g row into them’. 2nd Bower’s & Georgiades’ TABANYARUU KANTRI ALEKSI Well made d og with good bone. Strong masculine head with tipped ears. Balanced overall with correct angulation fore and aft. Not the ‘pr esence’ of 1. 3rd Breakspear’s & Perkins’ ELBERETH VALKOTASSU As previously 4th Ohara’s & Bowler’s ELBERETH MATTI NOVICE DOG – 5 (0) 1st French’s ALKANTARA ILOLASSON As previously 2nd Verenne’s INFINDIGO PERSIKKA UKKO Large than 1 but in proport ion. Enough bone and good oval feet. Moved out well. 3rd Staden’s ELBERETH KEIJO Another dog of good proportions, in he ad and body. Preferred the hind movement of 2. 4th Breakspear’s & Perkins’ ELBERETH VALKOTASSU 5th Ohara’s & Bowler’s ELBERETH MATTI YEARLING – 4 (0) 1st Allison’s GLENCHESS NALLUKKA BY OBERITZ Brown sable in good coat. Well constructed which showed in his good movement. Lovely head with soft expression and oval eyes blending with coat colour. Strong bone as is asked for in smaller than medium sized dog. 2nd Staden’s ELBERETH KEIJO As previously but moved better this tim e. 3rd Pashley’s & Morrison’s ELBERETH MISKAKARHU A nice dog with a strong, balanced, masculine head and gentle expression. Spoiled himself on the move. 4th Bower’s & Georgiades’ TABANYARUU KANTRI ALEKSI POST GRADUATE DOG – 6 (0) 1st White’s GLENCHESS KEIKARI This brown dog I have always a dmired as he epitomises the breed standard. He slightly pinned, on the move today, but so did others in the class. Also he was out of coat but it was a good harsh coat, called for in the standard. 2nd Spencer’s INFINDIGO PERSIKKA KUURA This is another dog that I have admired previously. He has a very strong head which, perhaps, could have a slightly shorter muzzle to make it perfect. He also has ‘domino’ head markings and a slightly tipped right ear, which of course, is perfectly within the breed standard. He has good bone and a good outline which he kept on the move. 3rd Green’s GILLESTA JUST ELLIOTT Another out of coat today but stil l a good example of the breed. Could change places another time. 4th Verenne’s INFINDIGO PERSIKKA UKKO 5th DowellLee’s OBERITZ RAIKULIPOIKA LIMIT DOG – 7 (0) 1st Mowatt’s LECIBSIN SALO OF TABANYARUU (IMP FIN) JW This you ng dog has been very eye catching from his entry to the UK. Well balanced throughout with correct slightly open angles fore and aft. Good forechest and legs parallel front and back. Truly masculine head of correct proportions. Presented in tip top condition and very attentive to his handler. 2nd Robinson’s OBERITZ RUMPALI This one has a coat of correct text ure, very profuse, having a proper ‘mane’. His bone is strong and in keeping with his size. Looks as though he could do a good days work. Head of correct proportions with eyes blending with coat colour. Moved soundly. 3rd Short’s GLENCHESS VAELTAJA Another dog with plenty of coa t, being profuse around the neck and over the correctly placed shoulders. Not quite the bone of 2 but adequate for his size. Lovely head with a strong muzzle. Ears placed rather far apart with the right one slightly tipped, which is, of course well within the breed standard. 4th Stanley’s IOLAIR MARKKU 5th Weetch’s YPREAU ALEKSI 3 OPEN DOG – 4 (1) 1st Short’s GLENCHESS ILOLAS If you know the breed standard then you will find that this wolf sable dog ticks all the boxes. However, when it came to the challenge, he seemed to have lost interest, which cost him. On another occasion he could well win through. 2nd Jackson’s Ch Int Ch Lux Ch ELBERETH MATKAMIES ShCM Another wolf sable dog. His head is of correct ratio of muzzle to skull but his muzzle could be broader, in my opinion. His coat is of good quality and he has a firm topline and is well muscled. 3rd Stanley’s IVYDALE AAMUKASTE Looked very good, on the stand. Well balanced and in correct ratio of height to length of body. Very good, masculine head and strong bone. Movement not as good as 1 & 2 as he was loose in his right pastern, on the day. KC GOOD CITIZENS DOG – 3 (0) 1st Jackson’s Ch Int Ch Lux Ch ELBERETH MATKAMIES ShCM 2nd in Open. 2nd French’s ALKANTARA ILOLASSON 1st in Junior and Novice. 3rd Weetch’s YPREAU ALEKSI Well made head with the darkest of ey es and kind expression. Stood on correct oval front feet and moved better, in this class. VETERAN BITCH – 5 (1) 1st Cooper’s ELBERETH APINA AT PAVOSKAS ShCM This bitch did not look her eight years and moved as if she were a lot younger. Well presented. A nice feminine head with correctly placed ears, nice dark eyes and kind expression. Balanced throughout. 2nd Mowatt’s TABANYARUU SISKO Smaller than 1 but still within the breed standard size. Moved out well and covered the ground with ease. Just preferred the head of 1 3rd Weetch’s ELBERETH KUUTAMO D’YPREAU This bitch looks at you with a darkish eye, for her wolf sable coat colouring. Moved OK. 4th White’s TERHAKAN UNNU LEENU AT GLENCHESS (IMP FIN) SPECIAL VINTAGE BITCH – 3 (0) 1st Cooper’s ELBERETH TARU AT PAVOSKAS This ten year old certainl y had a spring in her step and could show some of the younger ones how to move, even though she could do with losing some weight! Unusual coat colouring on her forelegs but her coat was of good quality. 2nd Simmons’ & Henson’s ELBERETH ONNEKAS FOR INFINDIGO ShCM Another ten year old bitch which moved well today. Very attentive to her handler. Good balanced profile but slightly out of coat today. 3rd Weetch’s HILDREK SISKIN D’YPREAU The oldest in the class but w ith a strong yet feminine head and the darkest of eyes. Every now and then she had a slight limp but not too serious. MINOR PUPPY BITCH – 5 (0) 1st Allison’s OBERITZ TROLLERI Another lovely black and tan puppy from this litter oozing breed qualities. A strong yet feminine head and good bone. Will watch her career with interest. 2nd DowellLee’s OBERITZ TROLLSTJARNA Yet another good puppy from this li tter but this time a cream, with very good pigmentation. The breeder must be very proud of them all and they should go a long way if they fulfil their promise. Preferred the bone development of 1. 3rd Treasure, Simmons & Henson’s LAPINLUMON PILVIPOUTA FOR INF INDIGO NAF A very pretty feminine bitch, with good oval eyes. She was handled really well being shown to advantage. If she were mine, I would like a little more weight on her at this stage. 4th Briggs & Jones’ ELBERETH HELMI 5th Beaumont & Mowatt’s LECIBSIN MEIKKI OF TABANYARUU PUPPY BITCH – 3 (0) 1st Dowell-Lee’s OBERITZ TROLLSTJARNA 2nd in the previous class 2nd Treasure, Simmons & Henson’s LAPINLUMON PILVIPOUTA FOR INF INDIGO NAF 3rd in the previous class 3rd Briggs & Jones’ ELBERETH HELMI Nice young wolf sable minor pu ppy of good proportion. JUNIOR BITCH – 4 (0) 1st Lock’s BRIDUS PIKKUMIMMI Nice young bitch, well balanced thro ughout. Very feminine head with dark oval eyes. Adequate bone with correct open angles fore and aft ensuring that she moved well and at one with her handler. 2nd Bright’s ALKANTARA ILO MINA A lovely bitch but not quite as balanced as 1, at this stage. Her body is well developed and she stood on good, correct feet and moved soundly. She is a very, pretty, happy wolf sable and given time will be very beautiful and could change places. 3rd Briggs & Jones’ ELBERETH HELMI As previously. 4th Proctor’s BRIDUS IHANA WITH CATHBRI 4 NOVICE BITCH – 1 (0) 1st Briggs & Jones’ ELBERETH HELMI As before YEARLING BITCH – 5 (0) 1st Thomas’ ELBERETH SUVI TUULI Another with a slightly tipped righ t ear, at this stage, on a strong, but feminine head. Correct eye shape set well apart. Good balanced outline of correct ratios. 2nd Lock’s BRIDUS PIKKUMIMMI As previously 3rd Bell’s ELBERETH KAIKKI MEILLE ALLFORUS Quite a nice bitch but slightly too long in body compared to height. She moved very well. Liked her head and her very dark eyes. 4th Stanley’s GLENCHESS NULIKKA AT ANSALFROSE 5th Bright’s ALKANTARA ILO MINA POST GRADUATE BITCH – 10 (3) 1st Lloyd’s GLENCHESS NIGHTWISH FOR ARIANRHOD Not the biggest of bitches but looking as though she can do a days work. Moved well around the ring keeping a firm topline. Really liked her head and kind expression. Good bone, for size and legs parallel front and back 2nd Thomas’ ELBERETH SUVI TUULI As previously 3rd Birks’ INFINDIGO RIEMU KIITAA Lovely cream coated bitch with a feminine head and well set ears. However I would prefer to see a darker eye. Adequate bone and correct angles fore and aft. 4th Thyer & Cooper’s PAVOSKAS OIVA HELMI 5th Treasure’s INFINDIGO RIEMU EMMI LIMIT BITCH – 15 (4) 1st Cooper’s MARYMEAD MOULIN ROUGE FOR PAVOSKAS Her strong bitch head impressed me right from the first look round. She looks a little longer than some but with ‘hands on’ she is in proportion and well made. Sometimes reluct ant to have her tail handled she used it correctly, on the move. Good angles front and back and low set hocks she moved well around the ring. Her profuse brown coat completed the picture. 2nd Allison’s OBERITZ MARIMEKKO Mother of the puppies that did so well previously you can see where they got their attributes. A lovely specimen of the breed in all quarters. Very attentive to her handler she moved well. Just preferred the head of 1. 3rd Short’s GLENCHESS ANIKKA Another lovely bitch, in this strong cla ss. Strongly boned and with good low hocks she moved with a good stride. Good dense coat. 4th Murray & Rowe’s ELBERETH AINOKAINEN ShCM 5th Moore’s MORVAL FIRE FOXI OPEN BITCH – 3 (0) 1st Short’s MILLERMEAD QUINTESSENCE TO GLENCHESS What a lovely wolf sable bitch. She epitomises the breed standard, from the tip of her nose right through her body. Shown to advantage, she strode out as if she owned the ring. She deserved her ultimate Best in Show. 2nd Head’s Ir Ch MILLERMEAD QUARTZ CRYSTAL JW ShCM Litter siste r to 1, she also has the best points to the breed standard. Unfortunately her sister outshone her today as she was not very enthusiastic on the move, here or in the challenge. 3rd Allison’s OBERITZ RILLUMAREI Again, another good example of the breed. She is cobbier than the other two but still in proportion with good bone but feminine throughout. KC GOOD CITIZEN BITCH – 6 (1) 1st Head’s Ir Ch MILLERMEAD QUARTZ CRYSTAL JW ShCM A clear wi nner, she moved better this time. 2nd Treasure’s INFINDIGO RIEMU EMMI Fifth in post grad she moved well in this class. She was very attentive and shown to advantage by her handler. Not the biggest of bitches she is in proportion with a sweet well marked head and sufficient bone for her size. 3rd Simmons’ & Henson’s ELBERETH ONNEKAS FOR INFINDIGO ShCM 2nd in Special Vintage Bitch 4th Proctor’s BRIDUS IHANA WITH CATHBRI 5th Weetch’s ELBERETH KUUTAMO D’YPREAU
