"The purpose of [Student Affairs Senate] shall be to enact
legislation to enhance student life."
The Chicago Urban Cultural Immersion Trip, which is open to
all Nebraska Wesleyan students, will allow ten Wesleyan
students and the Assistant to the Provost for Student Success
and Diversity to experience Chicago's urban planning, city life,
and cultural diversity over five days during 2010's spring
break.
The Presidents Council for Cultural Diversity with conjunction
with Wolf Funds has sponsored $2240.68 of the trip; which is
made up of ten students and the Assistant to the Provost for
Student Success and Diversity.
The students will contribute $200 per person.
In an effort to make this trip affordable for a larger
socioeconomic pool of Nebraska Wesleyan students, we are
respectfully asking for sponsorship in the form of funding.
After completion of the Chicago Urban Cultural Immersion
Trip, students will demonstrate understanding for cultural
diversity and individual identity as influenced by values, race,
social class, ethnic group, geographic region, gender and family
structure. Students will articulate beliefs and patterns of
action and interactions rooted in stereotypes of persons
connected to cultures unlike the attendant's culture. Students
will identify systemic issues and systematic issues
interconnected to social class, ethnicity, race, and policy.
Finally, the students will share their experience with the NWU
campus community with the presentation on their learning
outcomes and experiences.
The attached budget breakdown shows how we intend to
allocate the request for $2,532.30 of funds from the Student
Affairs Senate; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE 2009-2010 STUDENT AFFAIRS SENATE THAT:
Funding in the amount of $2,532.30 will be allocated to the Chicago Urban Cultural
Immersion Trip according to the attached Budget Breakdown, in order to make this trip
possible.
