COURSE OBJECTIVES
The aim of the course is to make students familiar with the basics of English syntax. The
course comprises basic syntactic terms and categorial as well as functional classification of
sentence elements. A special emphasis is put on the syntax of the verb and noun phrase.
Another aim of the course is to make students acquainted with the complex and compound
sentence and to introduce the most important theoretical frameworks that have shaped the
syntactic theory since the first half of the 20th century.

The final grade is assigned on the basis of a positive
