Study opportunities for graduate visiting students LUMS Master’s degree programmes run from the beginning of October until mid September – 12 months. As a visiting student you will have the opportunity to join our Masters programmes for one term, either in the autumn or the spring. (The summer term is dedicated to completing the Masters dissertation and is not available to visiting graduate students.) Academic year 2014/15 Michaelmas Term 3 October 2014 to 12 December 2014 Introduction week starts on 29 September 2014 - attendance required 10 week term; exams at the start of January 2013, exact dates will depend on your Masters programme* Lent Term 9 January 2015 to 20 March 2015 10 week term; exams in April 2015, exact dates will depend on your Masters programme* *Some visiting students may be permitted to sit their LUMS module exams in their home institution, provided that LUMS and the home university have agreed to this option. Please check with your International Coordinator. Master’s degree programmes available to visiting students All visiting graduate students must meet the entry requirements for the degree programme they are selecting and will follow the curriculum of one degree programme only. You will become an integrated member of the degree cohort, and as such, it is not possible to mix and match modules from other Masters programmes. Some Masters programmes may give preference to visiting students who apply for Michaelmas Term. If you wish to study at Lancaster in spring (Lent term) you will need to demonstrate that you have covered an equivalent of Lancaster’s autumn semester (Michaelmas term). MBA only accepts MBA exchange students, not MSc or MA students. Entry requirements All graduate students must meet the standard academic entry requirements and provide an English language proficiency certificate. Visiting students are exempt from this condition only if they have studied their Bachelor’s degree in English in a majority English speaking country. English language requirement for all Masters programmes: IELTS 7.0 - with at least 6.0 in each element iBTOEFL 100 with at least 22 in each element PR Pearson Test of English (Academic) 70 with at least 55 in each element Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) grade C or above The academic entry requirement An equivalent to a UK Upper Second Class Honours Degree. You will need to provide an official English translation of your undergraduate transcript for us to confirm your academic qualifications. Your International Coordinator will then send the nominations to us and we will contact you directly about the application process. At the nomination stage we will require your Bachelor’s degree transcript and your Master’s degree syllabus to be able to advise which Master’s degree in LUMS you are eligible for. When we have received your nomination and your relevant documents, we will contact you to discuss which Master’s degree you wish to apply for and we will ask you to apply by using our online application system on http://www.lums.lancs.ac.uk/masters/apply/ Please note that nomination by your institution does not guarantee an offer of a place. You will need to submit: 1. Personal statement – explain your motivation to come to Lancaster University 2. Bachelor’s degree transcript translated into English 3. List of Masters Courses you have covered so far with grades certified by your University (if available) 4. Your CV 5. English language certificate 6. One Academic reference commenting on your academic ability 7. A recommendation letter from your International Coordinator Deadlines The nomination deadline is 1st May 2014. The application deadline is 30th May for all documents to be uploaded on the web portal. These deadlines apply for students looking to come in autumn or in spring. There is no separate deadline for spring applications. Accommodation and living costs We offer visitor room booking for short stays on Campus. As soon as your place has been confirmed, please contact the Conference centre to book your Campus accommodation: sleep@lancaster.ac.uk. The approximate cost of a single room per night is about £20, per term is about £2,100 (1st October – 15th January). The food is not included in the price. You will need approximately £250 per month for food and subsistence.
