If this application is for a product that has not previously been imported into the UK,
it is understood that a supporting Special Import Certificate (SIC) or a Special
Treatment Certificate (STC), as applicable, from a veterinary surgeon will be
required before the Wholesale Dealers Import Certificate (WDIC) is granted1.


holder of a SIC or STC or WDIC in accordance with the current Veterinary
Medicines Regulations and to keep the following records available for inspection by
a suitably authorised person for at least five years:

the date of sale or supply;



Data Protection Act 1998 – Fair Processing Notice
The purpose of this Fair Processing Notice is to inform you of the use that will be made
of your personal data, as required by the Data Protection Act 1998.
Defra is the data controller in respect of any personal data that you provide when you
complete the Wholesale Dealers Import Certificate (WDIC) form. The VMD is an
Executive Agency of Defra and will be processing your personal data.
The VMD will use your personal data primarily for the purposes of informing Defra and
its agencies of the medicinal products that are being imported into the UK. This is to
ensure that any products being used will not interfere with any existing disease
surveillance schemes.
Your personal data may also be used to inform the devolved administrations and its
agencies of the products that are being imported for use in their territory. This will
include organisations such as the Welsh Assembly, The Scottish Government, Scottish
Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department (SEERAD) and Department of
Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Northern Ireland.
Defra and/or the VMD may also use your personal data where appropriate for purposes,
including regulatory and enforcement functions, connected with: the administration of
the Common Agricultural Policy (including the Single Payment Scheme), the England
Rural Development Programme and other aid schemes; cross compliance (ie checking
SPS claims and other claims for subsidies);
production and safety of food;
management of land and other environmental controls; animal health and welfare; and
occupational health and welfare. Data may be passed to other bodies where necessary
for any of the above-mentioned purposes. The data collected may also be used to
provide publicly available statistics that will not identify individuals.
Defra, the VMD and other public authorities holding may be required to release
information, including personal data and commercial information, on request under the
Environmental Information Regulations 2004 or the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
However, Defra and the VMD will not permit any unwarranted breach of confidentiality
nor will we act in contravention of our obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998.
Defra or its appointed agents may use the name, address and other details on your
application form to contact you in connection with occasional customer research aimed
at improving the services that Defra provides to you.
Defra’s Information Charter - Public Service Guarantee on Data Handling, which gives
details of your rights in respect of the handling of your personal data, is on the Defra
website. A document explaining the Guarantee is also on this website. If you don’t
