Course Overview

Demonstrate the fundamental theories of psychology, management, education, and
sociology that affect organizational behavior from the individual level to the group level.

Analyze the nature of human behavior in corporate and other organizations, various types
of employee motivations, leadership, power and authority, teamwork and collaboration,
and the measurement of organizational effectiveness.
Course Learning Objectives

Identify the nature and importance of the field of organizational behavior.

Understand how individuals interact with each other at work and how individual
behaviors impact on the organization as a whole.

Utilize concepts of leadership, communication, motivation, and conflict management
Course Resources
Required Course Text: Stephen P. Robbins, Timothy A. Judge, Organizational Behavior, 13th
Edition. Upper Saddle River, NJ: Prentice Hall.
Course Format

The class will consist of weekly lectures, class discussions, assigned homework flection,
and a Topic Essay by all groups.

Students will need to invite his/her classmates to create groups for both chapter and topic
presentations.

Class participation grade will be based on students’ overall contribution to class
discussions, every presentation, and group work out of the book.

Topic Essay grade will be based on a 2-page essay by groups of students on relevant
topics assigned by instructor, either from the textbook or from actual events, mainly to
answer the reflective thinking questions in the text book. Topic Essay submission is not
later than week 13. The essay format is Office 2003 default margin, Times New Roman
font, size 12.

Groups are asked to submit their assigned preparation documents via emails, one day
prior to class performance and hard copy before the next class session.


Course Policies

The use of laptops and tablets in class for presentation purpose and review session is
allowed. Other purposes of electronic device use in class and in tests are not allowed as
they may drive students to distraction from lectures.

All cell phones, if not in urgent case, must be muted or in vibration mode to avoid
academic process disruption. Emergency call can be made out of class.

Make-up Exam Policy: Make-up exams will not be given unless the student has a
verifiable, valid excuse that has been discussed with and agreed by the instructor in
advance.

At instructor’s sole discretion for very limited cases, provisions for missed exams may be
made for extraordinary situations. Students who may miss an exam should make every
effort to get written permission from instructor prior to the exam.

Attendance: Regular class attendance is expected, and poor attendance may reduce a
student’s class discussion grade. Students are expected to submit their written absence
request to the office or instructor before class. Those who are absent more than six (6)
hours will be dropped from the course and will receive an F.
Academic Honesty
Cheating in any form and plagiarism will not be tolerated. Any student discovered cheating on an
examination or plagiarizing in writing assignment will be dropped from the course and receive
an F, and if deemed necessary, the matter will be forwarded through the channels prescribed in
the HCCS Student Handbook.
