DATE: August 29, 2013 BACKGROUND: The Public Library Archives/Special Collections (PLASC) Roundtable was established by the Society of American Archivists on February 2, 2010. The Roundtable serves to encourage advocacy for and education about archival, manuscript, local history, genealogy, and other historic and special collections within public libraries of all sizes. The Roundtable also provides an arena for discussion and dissemination of best practices of the archives, library, museum, and history fields. It works to support the informational, historical, and cultural interests that converge in public library archives and special collections. There are currently more than 800 members of the roundtable. The Chair of PLASC is Anke Voss, Director of the Champaign County Historical Archives at The Urbana Free Library (Urbana, IL) and Lecturer for the GLIS program at the University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign. Email: avoss@tufl.info Phone: 217/531-7040. The Vice Chair is Leslie Waggener, Associate Archivist, American Heritage Center University of Wyoming. Email: lwaggen2@uwyo.edu Phone: 307/766-2557. The PLASC Roundtable would like to request that the Public Library Association consider co-sponsorship of the Roundtable. We also request that PLA name a representative to PLASC. We feel a collaboration of this type will benefit both PLA and SAA in that PLASC serves members across the library and the archival professions. Anke and Leslie welcome your questions about the work of the Roundtable. We thank you for your consideration of these requests. 1/1
