The 2015 Symposium on Educational Excellence Through Equity: Five
Principles of Courageous Leadership to Guide Achievement for Every Student,
features renowned authors Alan M. Blankstein and Pedro Noguera, together
with award-winning educational scholars, district and school leaders and
practitioners who will share strategies that have pursued equity and closed
instructional and achievement gaps at all levels from multicultural K-12 districts
and schools.
Symposium leaders will challenge the “zero sum” myth, arguing that equity
is truly the path to excellence for both low and high-achieving students, and our
K-12 educational system overall. Participants will learn:
 Examples of high-leverage practices used by award-winning schools and
districts, including de-tracking, leadership capacity development and
deployment to build teacher efficacy and close gaps between schools, and
successful innovations in curriculum and assessment design
 Powerful classroom practices that lead to success for ELL, special Ed and
underserved students as well as for their more privileged peers
 System-level examples of how excellence is being achieved through equity at
the district–level
