We develop our psyche as we develop our feet and the skills to stand on our feet. As we place one foot in front of the other, we lose and recover our balance. We make decisions, each step engaging us with the human walk of life. This workshop explores the dynamics of walking and explores being a curious observer with a friendly attitude to what walks us. Participants will have an opportunity to explore the uniqueness of their own walk and how our walk can be assessed to support conscious engagement with our physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing. The workshop structure is informed by principles from Dance Movement Therapy, Somatic and Depth Psychology. This workshop welcomes all psychotherapists including those who use walking aids to support their mobility and is appropriate for 16 participants. Please bring comfortable clothes and walking gear as there may be a short outdoor exploration depending on weather. Also bring a notebook, pen and blanket. Bernadette Divilly is a Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapist and a Psychology graduate from NUI Galway. She also has a Masters in Somatic Psychology and Dance Movement Therapy from the Naropa University, Boulder, Colorado. It is a therapeutic method using one or two sand trays, (one wet and one dry), water and a selection of symbolic and archetypal materials. It is a non-directive and at times, non-verbal model of therapy where it allows the deeper aspects of the self to be worked in a therapeutic setting and can be effective in helping reduce the emotional causes behind challenging behavior. The image produced in the sand tray is an expression of life from where our dreams reside. A lovely style of this method is that it offers the traymaker the opportunity to use nonverbal communication to release details that may be too painful to put into words. Sandplay works equally well with both adults and children. Adults can also often have difficulty expressing their feelings verbally, most particularly in times of emotional distress. Learning objectives: The participants will be able to: Describe the overview of the history and development of Sandplay as a therapeutic technique Describe theories of Carl Jung and Dora Kalff as they relate to Sandplay Therapy Describe the experience of making their own image in a sandtray Facilitator: Ursula Somerville MIHAIP, ECP, MEAIP, SIAHIP, MIJSTA Ursula is a Counsellor and Psychotherapist, Jungian Sand Therapist, Child Psychotherapist and Play Therapist and Clinical Supervisor. It is an opportunity to explore what holds us back from fully valuing the work we do, and to create a plan for the future. It is suitable for all counsellors and therapists, whether employed, selfemployed or providing their services free of charge. The format of the workshop will be informal and experiential, with presentations in large group, smaller group discussion, exercises and games. This workshop looks at our beliefs and values around charging for our work, and where they might limit us, both in our work with clients, and in our personal lives. These limits are determined by many factors including our past experiences, our values, our self-worth and our beliefs. Often outside our awareness, they may be restricting our ability to grow, personally and professionally. By the end of the course, participants will have explored their attitudes to promoting and valuing the work, have practical ideas for expanding their range of promotional activities, have explored their values and beliefs about abundance and charging for the work, understand the fears and blocks that might be getting in the way and have an outline plan for moving forward.
