OPENING FOR A QUANTITATIVE CEREAL GENETICIST SPECIALIZED IN COMPLEX TRAITS
Overall mission :
ARVALIS – Institut du végétal is a 400 person applied research institute that is financed and run by
the French Cereal and Maize Growers’ Boards. One of its missions is to provide an independent
evaluation and advice to farmers on all registered cultivars, up to and including their adaptation to
different environments and cropping systems. To do so, Arvalis has developed R&D activities in the
field of genotype by environment interactions and the genetics of complex traits. Moreover, Arvalis
interacts frequently and regularly with all maize and wheat breeding companies to contribute to the
improvement of variety by leveraging its in-depth knowledge of farmers’ needs and French growing
conditions.
The objectives of the position are:
- Develop and implement quantitative genetics methods applied to the analysis and prediction
of complex characters in short straw cereals and maize.
- Specifically, pursue ongoing collaborations with internationally renowned academic groups in:
genomic prediction of genotype by environment interaction; quantitative genetics of dynamic
traits (functional mapping).
- Initiate work on quantitative genetics of linked characters (yield components for example).
- Maintain and develop our network of national and international collaborations, with both
academic groups and private companies, in quantitative genetics and genomic prediction.
- Develop operational pipelines to implement successful methods routinely for colleagues
carrying out day to day variety evaluation and advice.
- Contribute to the improvement of our handling and analysis of high density genotyping data.
Qualifications :
PhD in quantitative genetics
Experience in genome wide association analysis and genomic prediction required
Experience in analysis of complex traits
Ability to work in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.
Strong interest for application of scientific advances towards farmers and advisors.
Experience on wheat and maize is a plus
Minimal day to day knowledge of French ; Working knowledge of English
