Dean’s Scholarship General Information – Award criteria and amounts are established by the respective Dean’s and
Graduate Program Directors. These awards will be given to new part - or full-time students entering an SBU grad
program in the summer, fall or spring – as funds remain available. This award may not be used for study abroad and
cannot be combined with the Franciscan Mission Grant, the Buffalo Schools Grant, the AmeriCorps Matching Grant or a
Graduate Assistantship. Students in SBU’s 5 year accounting program are not eligible. Students can only receive the
Dean’s Scholarship one time – It is not renewable.

School of Business – The award will be given to the top 15% of applicants, based on GMAT/GRE score and/or
undergraduate GPA.

School of Education – Awards of up to 20% of tuition will be awarded based on length of academic program and
GPA. No additional scholarship-related items are required.

School of Journalism and Mass Communication (IMC program) – Candidates must present a 3.25 or better
undergraduate GPA. Note that SBU undergraduates admitted to the IMC program as juniors must maintain this
GPA requirement through their senior year. Additionally, DGS applicants must show a significant social/digital
media presence which may include evidence of a Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, blog, website or other social/digital
media presence that is used strategically to promote a professional presence. Applicants should also show
evidence of a LinkedIn profile that includes a resume and endorsements from three or more professionals or
